The two Hamilton properties have a lengthy list of interventions from the Toronto Ethnic radio station owners. This is in response to the amount of signal strength that both 820 and 1150 send towards Toronto.

As with CKWW, CHAM was business as usual when I picked up their scratchy signal in Fort Gratiot earlier this week.

If CKWW is approved but not the Hamilton stations, does Bell give up and shut them down?

CKWW now has a horrible hum. I don’t see it being fix until Ray gets in there. I thought the transaction closed, what is taking so long?

I wonder what is next for CHML 900. Foreign Language Programming? Although it looks like without changing patterns or moving it, they don't serve Toronto that well.

Corus has shut down AM stations in Vancouver and Edmonton recently. In those cases, they have simulcast with an existing station, giving the possibility of a sale. CHML on the other hand, is shut off, but apparently the license has not been turned in. I would think they would try to sell.

I don’t recall how well CHML reaches Toronto- it’s been two years since I’ve been there. It appears from the maps to reach Niagara and Buffalo more directly. Without Toronto, the station loses a lot of potential value for a foreign language or religious broadcaster. Those are realistically the only two options.

All of the nearby stations on 900 and 10 kHz and 20 kHz adjacent protected adjacent channels in Canada are gone. They are only required to protect the US stations on 900 and adjacent channels. They are gone from the Canadian domestic database. I seem to remember that near the CN tower, WBEN 930 came in a lot stronger than CHML 900.I would think that a pattern change could be done to increase the service to Toronto. The existing arrangement has a broadside symmetrical component, and that might need modification. It might be better to do it from near the previous site West of Niagara Falls.

CHML's license will have to be revoked, and a new transmitter site will be needed for 900 AM to work in the GTA. I think the current Sauga 960 in Mississauga could apply to move down to 900 kHz with at least 10 KW days, and wait to reduce power when Prince Albert, Saskatchewan hits local sunset.

Since the equivalent power toward Hamilton when it was 5000 watts was only around 10000 watts, I would think that they could continue to be a Hamilton station with an appropriate pattern. Are you talking about limiting competition restrictions for the Toronto Market?

I mean that Hamilton itself will only have two AM broadcasts of its own, and another existing broadcaster could move to 900 AM in a different city.
