Re: Weather reporting
I-75 flooded at I-696 despite construction of a very expensive new drainage and pumping station over the past couple years.
If melting wet heavy snow plus a half inch of rainfall can cause such issues (heavy rainfall moved through the area last night around 10PM), I fear to think what will happen during drenching thunderstorms this spring and summer.

If those drains got covered in snow in any significant way that’s part of your problem.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:46 amI-75 flooded at I-696 despite construction of a very expensive new drainage and pumping station over the past couple years.

Temps were in the upper 30s there last evening. I bet the pumps failed.

Re: Weather reporting
Saw the lightning and heard the thunder snow last nite. 2:15 it was flurries …. 7p we had 4” plus on the ground with another inch or more after that.
9:00….. definitely raining and made things a bigger mess for sure
Not sure who called what …. But this is my own back yard after the fact.
Meteorologists….. educated guesses based on computer models nowadays.
Is what it is.

Re: Weather reporting
I predicted thundersnow 36 hours ahead of time. No one else locally did so, to the best of my knowledge.

Heard it when I was in Novi yesterday. I immediately thought of MW (who should have gone into meterology!)

Re: Weather reporting
Thanks!
That mid level impulse that was over Lake Michigan this morning is now over the M-52 corridor and is producing a couple blobs of heavy snow and nasty winds in portions of Oakland, Livingston and Washtenaw counties right now.
Wouldn't shock me if NWS issues a snow squall warning for the band extending from near Pontiac to Fenton.

That’s the nature of drains… you’d rather do what? Have no drains and let it evaporate? It isn’t a heck of a lot different than hair in the drain in your sink or leaves over a storm drain.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 12:16 pm"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help"Rate This wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:53 amIf those drains got covered in snow in any significant way that’s part of your problem.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:46 amI-75 flooded at I-696 despite construction of a very expensive new drainage and pumping station over the past couple years.

Funny. I wouldn't take a bet that those are Habitat for Humanity McMansions you're visiting with your clipboard and hardhat everyday, comrade. As for I-75 and I-696, if Dan's Excavating can't figure out how to design a proper drain at a busy interchange, then MDOT probably needs to hire someone else. This certainly isn't a new problem.

Re: Weather reporting
My suspicion is there was a loss of power to the pumps, which (if true) begs the question - why aren't they on generator backup?

That's what I like about Orlando, all the roads are either fairly new, or recently upgraded.
