Didn't Rick also work at WKQI for a while?

According to back issues of R&R on Dave Gleason's site, Rick Gillette programmed Q95-5 from December 1997 to July or August of 1998. I guess that explains why the station started sounding a lot more staid and conservative musically by that fall (i.e. getting rid of the "Top 8 at 8" most-requested countdown and installing an all '80s hour). Meanwhile DRQ jumped on the teen pop boom while WKQI was playing Bryan Adams flops. Little wonder DRQ started to eat KQI's lunch within a year's time.

Yes, Gary Berkowitz was still consulting WKQI when Rick was there. I think Kevin O'Neill was doing mornings.

Kevin was not the best fit for that station, but he was succeeded by Steve Cochran, who was a poorer fit.
I actually enjoyed the brief period Kevin hosted mornings on WDVD (right before Fowler was hired).

I think it was Rick that took The Electrifying Mojo off the air if I remember right. Whether one liked his show or not at least it wasn't the same old hits played the other 20 hours a day.
