I know a little bit about Party 103 and I see that they get a lot of grief here, and maybe it’s deserved, I don’t know.
But whether you like Andrew Z and Party 103 or not, they’re doing something a bit different. In an industry where everyone is doing the same thing, it’s refreshing to see something different -even if it isn’t groundbreakingly different.
I’m rooting for them.

But they aren’t doing anything different. It’s the same shit that Andrew has done for years, the difference is that he doesn’t have a boss now so he can do whatever he wants. Which can be extremely dangerous. I’m not rooting for him, because I’ve learned my lesson. You should rethink your position before it’s to late.

Formulaic 90s morning zoo radio while playing Taylor Swift and Ace of Base the rest of the day isn't different. At all. The only good thing about that station is that Andrew is local to Toledo while Mojo on Kiss is not.

No matter how any of us feel about what they've got going on they absolutely need to fix their site issues and fix the processing on their stream. I'm impressed he was able to pull in half a share but I wish they'd spend more time on their digital brand since that's how a good majority of his listeners are going to get the station out of the car. He almost needs to treat it as an internet station with an FM translator.

If he would make some adjustments to the audio chain he may actually have a shot at passing WQQO.

Andrew Z may be doing 90s radio, but he is more entertaining that Ron Burgandy and the afternoon news.

Again, just stating facts. Not trying to infect this thread with anti Q105 stuff. Even though I started this chain, and Party is better than Q105.

The audio streaming online and the audio feeding TOD-HD2 is not processed. I have urged as strongly as I could that Party 103 should, at a minimum, get some DAB software package.
When they moved from 1520 to TOD HD2 I think they decided they were trading an AM no one listened to for an HD no one would listen to. Though they’re not exactly wrong, HD radios in cars have higher penetration every day, so I dunno how wise this thinking is. But they are most concerned with Party103 -even though there is no translator without a mothership.
The FM translator does have some sweetening going on -though certainly nothing too cutting edge!
Given what I do understand about the way it’s all being done though, rather shoestring, I’d still say they’re punching above their weight class.
Part of what makes the Party 103 story so interesting to me, other than the little guy slinging mud in the big guys eyes, is that they’re unapologetically doing what they want because they’re convinced there is a niche there -they are not chasing a trend or looking to fill a void. They are going to do what they want to do, and I think that’s great!
Were I in their position, I’d do things differently for sure -but I’m not in their position!

It has taken zero numbers from a big station. It has done nothing, and it will not do anything.

The station's overall sound is shit. The signal is small. It's literally being broadcasted out of someones dining room.

Party 103.3 is a terrible radio station, that moves the needle as much as a college station does. Nobody cares.
