Union Time
Re: Union Time
I was part of the union at WJRT until Jason Carr busted it up, then left.
No use for it at EYI since there are only a couple people left.
Such a sad state of affairs. I remember when the Flint Journal went to two days a week for print, Sundays and Thursdays.

Re: Union Time
Joining a union is like joining an MLM. You get sweet-talked into an arrangement that you’re told is beneficial to you, but only the people on top who suckered the underlings in do well.m60 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:32 pmSo, you what to pay a group of thugs each month.sinklair wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:38 pm Now that the State House has decided to repeal Right to Work, I’d encourage Erik to start a union drive.

Maybe if there was a union, 25-66 mismanagers wouldn’t be allowed to work their employees on all shifts.
And before the Buzzboard trolls come out… try not to twist your logic trying to justify Erik having to work the morning, early evening and late evening newscasts as the station finds excuse after excuse why they can’t keep or find employees…
And when you say no one is forcing him to work at 25-66… I agree. He should quit. But staff should also organize so this crap can’t happen again.
Becky likes to Pat herself on the back about how she got rid of the UAW representation last time. Wondering if she’ll be just as proud to bring them back???
Re: Union Time
Because the union spared so many jobs over the years, right?sinklair wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:04 pm M60: I no longer work at 25-66. But if I had to pay union dues to force management to negotiate with the labor force — as opposed to what happened — yes, absolutely. It would be worth the cost considering everyone who was laid off, the worsening work conditions, and the least amount of local news being provided in the station’s recent history. Yes, most of the remaining workers would probably sign up in a heartbeat for fair representation.
Re: Union Time
I've seen a pattern.
Seems like the same suckers fall for pyramid scams, timeshares, and unions.

Those looking for a shortcut, a "get rich quick" plan, or are just plain gullible seem to get involved in these.

Remind me again why anyone would want a union.Soundchaser wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 3:32 pmNABET couldn't save jobs at 12. After every sale 12 lost jobs from their unit. They had a layoff clause that really only benefited long time employees. And the company could dance around that clause all day. The payout for for short timers was pitiful.keto wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:11 pmBecause the union spared so many jobs over the years, right?sinklair wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:04 pm M60: I no longer work at 25-66. Taken their money by force.Soundchaser wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:13 pmWhat, are you pouting now?
It's a legitimate question.
What would a union have done for those layed off?
Re: Union Time
And if they had paid 1.5% being represented by a union and went to 0% because the union never saves jobs (or provides any value for that matter) they would have lost that 1.5%. So by not paying a union they saved 1.5% while they look for other jobs.
Re: Union Time
The first several pages of union contracts reinforce the policy that nobody represented by the union (by freewill or force) may negotiate on their own behalf.Soundchaser wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:39 amI would love to read a union contract that was drawn up for a new unit.
Im sure it would read,
You will work here until we say you don't.

Re: Union Time
I'm trying to find the difference between unions and HOA's and can't find one.

Oh, unions have more lazy people, and that's about it.
No private organization should be given the power of government, that's exactly what you get with unions.
