Re: T-Town radio predictions 2023
Either major repair work to the Pickle Rd. antenna farm or an entirely new one was needed for 1470, for a long time by the time the station was finally shut down. That likely would have made it cost prohibitive for smaller broadcasters.

It looks like the FCC finally decided that WLQR had had enough STAs. The problem is, you would have needed to have some kind of DA just to preserve the license, at that site or elsewhere, even at 250 watts. They couldn't have done it non directionally like many other stations have done, not that that is the ideal solution for most of those either. WLQR was jammed in in too many directions to do that. Any rebuilding of the antenna system would probably be prohibitively expensive for the market size. WDTW 1310, though licensed to a smaller town, Dearborn, served much of the area of a much larger market quite well, particularly in the Daytime.

If I recall, 1470’s main lobe was over Lake Erie.

Did any of Cumulus's sister stations air Tigers games if there was a scheduling conflict?CurlyHoward wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 5:15 am I think it was 2008 or 2009 when the Hens switched to WCWA. Back before that, the controversy about the Tigers on Toledo radio was that both the Hens and Tigers were on 1470 and the Hens had priority when both played at the same time, even after the Tigers became very good starting in 2006. So at the time people were happy to have the Hens off of 1470.

Nope. If you couldn't get 96.1 from Archbold, 97.1 from Detroit or 1050 from Ann Arbor you were SOL if the Hens were on.
