WATZ is not run as a dime store operation. The studio is very nice property on Thunder Bay, well manicured lawn and garden. Both studios have been remodeled including new equipment just a few weeks ago. They have a good staff that outdoes other radio, tv, and the newspaper. Stop by sometime, and say "HI" to Jack. He does live there now.

I have zero plans to visit Alpena, ever again, but glad to hear Jack likes it there.Jim Sofonia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 6:13 pm

Re: Jack O’Malley back on the radio
Sorry about the belated update, haven't been able to log on in a while,
O'Malley is now out as an afternoon host at WATZ and Josh Strickland is in.Not sure if O'Malley is still operating director for that cluster.
Unrelated northern Michigan radio updates,
WLDR in Traverse City went from being an open carrier with RDS to pure static a few weeks back.About three days later,I seen on FCC.today that their sister station WOUF had their license suspended.
Also WJML And WWMN has flipped floped their call signs.

58 years?organman95 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 2:15 pmWOW.... After how many years has 1110 been on the air as WJML?
In any event, if someone wanted to build something around JML's heritage, it should have been done long before now, and on a much bigger signal than the FM licensed to Thompsonville.
I wonder why Roy punted AM 750? IIRC, Roy had something similar to a perpetual free lease when he swapped stations with Rick Stone.
Despite it's shortcomings, 92.5 probably should have become JML 2.0, with 1110 there, for throwaway programming. No matter what you do, you're still in a resort market with 30 radio stations and other media, all competing for revenue. Or, to quote the late Bob Liggett regarding Traverse City/Petoskey, "Sure, you'll sell some spots, then drive 150 miles to collect"

Re: Jack O’Malley back on the radio
Well it looks like Jack is leaving Alpena heading back to TC. Going to be doing a one hour show on WTCM starting in Feb?
Re: Jack O’Malley back on the radio
Hopefully it's one hour and done. I can't imagine Jack trying to do more than one hour.BayCityJohn2337 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 6:54 am Well it looks like Jack is leaving Alpena heading back to TC. Going to be doing a one hour show on WTCM starting in Feb?

Re: Jack O’Malley back on the radio
Ok so it's called the Jack O' Malley weekend journal. Debut date is Feb 1st Sat at 10AM on News Talk 580 WTCM. I'm guessing it's going to deal with politics and maybe local news stories. I don't think he's going to be playing the best of Britney Spears.. Sorry guys.. haha

Probably phoning it in from Alpena.

Just a tad confused here.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 12:24 pm Considering how so many people are "phoning it in" these days, let's just say that I find it hard to believe that Jack O'Malley has *physically* relocated to Alpena.
I ain't buyin' it.
