OTA would favor the two duopolies in town 7/20 or 50/62. Scripps would totally be up for games on 20 but would only offer the teams low ball money and make the teams pay for the production.

20 or 50 are the only real options for OTA games. Major networks don’t put up with preemptions like they used to. Adell won’t pony up cash to put them on 38.

I don't believe we had ordered PASS until 1991, my dad being a major Wings fan. Before that, he would just leave the scrambled channel on...kind of like watching pr0n, hoping to see a b00b 🤣 Then they went basic cable about, what...1996 or so?

I echo the sentiments of having select games on OTA. It was easier to keep up back then; you knew you could see roughly half the season on channel 50 or channel 4. Now we're talking about streaming only and shit like that. Given how the four major teams have fared the last few seasons, coupled with people cutting the cord, it's no wonder this is happening.

The NBA could also be heading for a lockout so that extension could be moot if there is no season or a truncated one.

Why would there be any preemptions? Every OTA has like 3-4 sub channels now.

I think streaming has had its day with the likes of Disney & Netflix chopping jobs and cutting costs. Now that the initial surge in subs has ended they can't spend like they used to. Turns out the extra few dollars subscribers can pay to skip ads doesn't come close to covering the ad revenue traditional broadcasting can raise.
I don't think you're wrong. NBC is among the first to try to go around the local affiliates, but no one is used to paying for that content, and I just don't see moving them to pay for it working out.

Subchannels have low viewership and many are not carried on cable. Yes I know this is OTA talk but we still can’t count out the cable viewership.
