I wonder if Interlochen would ever consider moving the IPR News format to the massive 88.7 signal ?
A lot of WIAA's coverage area overlaps with WBLV and WCMU-FM, both of which primarily play classical music.
WCMU is classical only from 9am-12n and 1-4pm these days. World Cafe from 9-11pm and Jazz from 11pm-5am. WBLV is also jazz all night.
WCMU does run an all-news/talk format on the HD2 of their three stations that run HD (91.7 WCML, 103.9 WCMW and 90.1 WUCX), for what that's worth.

I was up in TC a couple of weeks ago and WLDR (all 880 watts of it!) had a classic hits format. That format should be on 92.3 or 99.3, which both run the exact same Memories FM format from the same location! WLDR was lost just south of TC to WDEZ from Wausau, WI.
101.9 to IPR makes sense for multiple reasons:
1. Henderson wouldn't be selling to a commercial competitor
2. IPR News on 101.9 (at 100kW) would be a massive upgrade over their existing 91.5 signal and would provide a solid signal to Cadillac, where IPR News is almost impossible to receive currently from either WICA or WLMN
3. (related to #2) 101.9 would help fill in the current gaps between WICA and WLMN (to the south) and WHBP (to the north)
4. IPR could then spin off 91.5 to a religious entity
IMHO, the odds of IPR buying the 101.9 allocation are fairly slim (unless it is donated to them)
The current regime at Interlochen has zero interest in spending more money on over the air broadcasting. None whatsoever. That comes from people on the inside.
ftballfan floats this idea that IPR buy Roy's stations for years. I would agree that IPR has no interest to grow in that way. Their streaming numbers are pretty impressive.
As far as curating the music, Interlochen does a much better job than CMU and Blue Lake's station goes to Jazz in the evening.
