LOL. his likely under-the-influence rants about being "blackballed" and Cumulus and iHeart being "afraid to play black music".
I flipped on his station in the car just now and they were playing the notoriously subversive underground track "I Saw The Sign" by Ace of Base. Truly the revolution to destroy stale corporate radio in Toledo has begun!

Perhaps instead of talking up the ramp of I Saw the Sign, he could use that time to wash his grubby fingernails.

I know I chose "Over," but I'm changing my mind to "Under." I was of the mistaken impression that this was a Fusion Radio production that A.Z. was just involved in. I've heard some staff has already quit and there is a good chance of not meeting payments to Fusion. This might be totally shut down before Halloween.

They had me fooled as well, but the clues are starting to stack up. Thanks for the Intel. Perhaps I'll make a phone call or two.BASProShop wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 7:41 pm I know I chose "Over," but I'm changing my mind to "Under." HAHAHA. Barely a month in and he's already bouncing checks higher than the pylon on the Glass City Skyway. Wow.

This seems like a novelty thing. Something that will lose it's luster fairly quick.

I thought the same thing when I assumed Fusion/Jamtraxx was calling the shots. If Andrew Z really is "renting" this station, that's hilarious. Somebody didn't do their research.
Truthfully, I think Classic Soul/Old School would be a better choice for a place like Toledo. The dance format seems a little off... Toledo isn't Miami or Chicago.

Re: PARTY 103.3 Over/Under
Their website has been down since at least yesterday. I'm too far north to hear the station and 1520 is WJR bleeding over for some reason. Too lazy and don't care enough to stream

We might be looking at Toledo's version of 105.3 The Whip here (those familiar with West Michigan radio will know what I'm referring to)... only shorter lived.

I believe the great Tim Hartley worked at The Whip, maybe under an alias...too long ago for me to recall.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 8:50 pm Indeed!
The Whip in Muskegon, MI had a stockpile of good (in some cases, great) air talent at least. The whole business plan made zero sense, though, much like 103.3 in Toledo. A dance remix / CHR hybrid was the WRONG format for the territory that signal covered. Tower was located about 35 miles north of Muskegon, MI and 60 miles NNW of Grand Rapids.
Other things I remember about The Whip:
- voiceovers from Bumper Morgan
- flimsy, outdated sounding audio processing
- almost no paid advertising. I think they might've had 3 or 4 paid advertisers over the station's 3 or 4 month life span.
- Connie & Fish reappeared in morning drive many years later at WLHT in Grand Rapids, and Beau Derek appeared many years later (PD / afternoon drive) on that same radio station long after it had relocated 30 miles closer to Grand Rapids. He brought 105.3 Hot FM its best ratings ever during the brief time he was PD.
The power bill alone - recall the station was broadcasting with 100,000 watts ERP at the time, albeit from unimpressive height - likely exceeded revenue.

Re: PARTY 103.3 Over/Under
I agree that the playlist is probably too niche for a market like Toledo. If it's true that it's not looking good for the station than it's a shame. The playlist is definitely different than other stations in the market. If this fails, maybe another local personality could start up a new station.

Indeed... the Whip signal probably reached more fish, deer and bears than it did people.
One wacky thing I remember about 105.3... after the LMA (or whatever it was) was terminated and the station returned to the previous "Lite Mix" format, they kept some of the dance tracks in rotation for a time! You'd hear a remix of Vitamin C's "Smile" next to a Celine Dion ballad.

The whip? LOL the first thing I thought of was the commercial for Brown and Bag it in Clausen MI, used to air on 97.1 when it was FM talk.
Party reminds me of Q96.9, back in 2003.
