105.5 WQQO Toledo

Unread post by Deleted User 15835 »

To me Q105, is like Tower 98 was in the 2000s, it was the station that was on preset button 6. You turned them on when KIss-FM, The River, or Star 105 was playing a song you didn't like. For one reason or another, they were hell bent on keeping 98.3 CHR till the bitter end. Finally they wised up changed the format to my 98.3, then to Nash Icon.

SO Q105 is in the same rut, there so adamant on keeping this station going despite terrible ratings and to boot, they have been broadcasting in mono for like a year now. I mean come on! really? Plus they added The Bert Show :x

Personally I'd like to see News/Talk or say Alt 105.5, and no not another resurrection of The Zone. . 105 has a decent signal in most of Toledo and up into Monroe county MI. Something else could be put on this signal then what's on there now.

Ok rant over. :smokin

I still want soft AC, AAA, or active rock on there.

Realistically, I don't see much of a change. If Cumulus tries talk again it would be 24/7 off the bird minus any local brokered programming they could pick up. Toledo doesn't have a real active rock station and I don't see that changing. Soft AC or AAA wouldn't draw numbers or revenue. Might as well try jazz, Spanish, or polka at that point.

Plus, WJR is heard relatively clear from Toledo, which carries some of the same syndicated talk shows the Toledo talker would carry.

we've recently had a 2nd talk station and 3rd rock station. I liked the last version of the Zone better than IOT or XKR (then again, these days I'd probably prefer an Estonian Midget Opera format to IOT) but nobody listened to either, even more so than Q105's current shitty numbers.

The Zone thing needs to just die already, however, 100.7 is only 82 watts of power so it's a tad hard to pull in, depending on where you are. I can get it ok in Bedford twp MI but for another rock station to work, it would need to be on 105.5, to make an impact.

If Cumulus wants office radios tuned-in, WRQN isn't that station anymore. River isn't that station for a decade. Going back to a 'Star 105' '3WM' Soft Adult on 105.5 could bring in the office crowds and the older demo that doesn't like the 80's on 93.5 and dropped the River (WLQR 101.5) back in 1991.
IMO, 98.3 and 105.5 are both going to waste the way that they are being used at this time. Can't expect much from Mrs. Jonny D to have innovative programming in the Toledo market.

WRQN would probably be heard in a lot more businesses if they would ditch the 80's butt rock. Leave GNR and the Scorpions to WIOT and WXKR.

As for 105.5, about 35 years ago, we were called into Big Lew's office for adding a "new band" called U2 (you may have heard of them) to the playlist. He asked us "What's next? ZZTop?" I told Lew no, but frankly, 3WM was beginning to sound tired, and stuff like Air Supply, and Neil Diamond had to go. We basically hand picked every song, every segue. Added some newer, better music. I didn't stay long, but the changes seemed to work. Months later, I heard that Fred North and the Morning Crew were out. On my next drive through Toledo, sure enough, all of the wimpy sounding, sad soft AC tunes were back. SMH

When it was a 3000 watt/300 foot facility out in a "cornfield" in Berkey, OH, you might have had an excuse for underperformance. Now, as a 6000 watt/328 foot equivalent facility almost in the geographic center of Toledo, you can only conclude that it's either the format, or that there are just too many stations in the Toledo market for the market size, or too many in a similar format.

I was puzzled the first time I heard Van Halen on RQN....I know Toledo loves itself some 80's butt rock, but aren't they taking listeners away from XKR by playing some of the same music?

Yeah.. 105.5 as said, has a decent signal in the market. In Bedford Twp, it booms in. So there is no reason for such crummy numbers on that signal. I'm not saying there going to be in the top 5, but for gods sake a different format I'm sure would do better then what's going on now.

Just tweaking and doing soft re-launches isn't cutting it anymore.

93.5's playlist is tiny but I have been hearing more crust bucket butt rock on RQN as of late. Sort of takes me back to the days of 93Q.
