Unused AM allocations
Re: Unused AM allocations
When I tune the AMBC band with my new radio (Icom 7300) and the 250 ft dipole, I can see carriers and modulatiuon , or at least a measurable carrier, on EVERY freq from 530-1700 day and night. I can see modulaion on the band scope on nearly every freq as well. No unused freq In S.E Michigan in my view.

So, I'm curious about some of the Day signals which are detectable.k8jd wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 11:57 pm When I tune the AMBC band with my new radio (Icom 7300) and the 250 ft dipole, I can see carriers and modulatiuon , or at least a measurable carrier, on EVERY freq from 530-1700 day and night. When I used a 20 foot vertical with a Tom Kneitel modified tuned preamp inductively coupled to s Sony Portable in Mecosta County in the late 1970s, I had almost every frequency Days.

Re: Unused AM allocations
I will look at that list of freqs, some are just too far and will not get thru the daylight D layer much after sunrise. Will report back tomorrow.

Re: Unused AM allocations
Looking at various sites, it looks like WYSL Avon, NY is the most likely candidate on 1040, due to favorable Great Lakes and Canadian conductivity areas. We're probably talking a few uV/m.
1120 is most likely WBBF 1120 Buffalo, NY, which would follow the same path and a similar field strength.
650 is likely WSM, as I think I once calculated the M-3 field strength to also in the few microvolt per meter field strength.
WHAS 840 is likely above 10 uV/m.
The limit for hearing a signal on both a barefoot Potomac FIM-41 and a barefoot Panasonic RF-2200 is on the order of 15 uV/m.
I think I heard WOI 640 Ames, IA with a tuned inductively coupled 125 foot long wire in Genesee County, before all the new 640 stations came on.

Re: Unused AM allocations
I heard WNMT 650 in Nashwauk, Minnesota from Jefferson City Missouri.
Michigander held hostage in Missouri. Go Detroit Tigers!
Re: Unused AM allocations
I spent some time trying to get an iD from the signal on 1580, not CKDO from Oshawa, all sports talk possible syndicated, no clues given to the stations' location./ Got busy cleaning house with Wife for family event and had no more time for radio.
