How Many Are We Going To Need
Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
In all this talk of "insurrection" going all the way back to January 6th, has there ever been evidence that any of the people who breached the Capitol did so with the literal intention of overthrowing the government?
Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
They tried to break in and kill elected leaders who had to be rushed out. There was a coordinating room over at the Willard Hotel staffed with Trump acolytes. They weren’t their to have tea and Take a couple photos.km1125 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 10:13 amIf it's accurate, sure. But you could also try calling that an "insurrection" too and it should be just as wrong as your earlier post.Matt wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 8:42 amIf someone broke into your house, would you consider it mostly peaceful?km1125 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 8:18 amYou can call it a lot of things, but the least accurate would be an "insurrection". That's just silly.
A "mostly peaceful" riot, or a "mostly peaceful" disruption would both be much more fitting.
Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
There were a few nutjobs in the crowd that might have had such an intent, but by-and-large, of the THOUSANDS that were there that day, most were "mostly peaceful" and most were walking around taking photos, including many with the Capitol Police that were present.
Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
The people that broke in. We are talking about them. They were participating in an attempt to get the Congress to certify Trump as the winner anyways. Some of this was propagated and pushed by Trump and his lawyer underlings. And they set up a command center at the Willard hotel. This wasn’t some protest that got out of hand. It was very carefully done with some organization to it.km1125 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 12:15 pmThere were a few nutjobs in the crowd that might have had such an intent, but by-and-large, of the THOUSANDS that were there that day, most were "mostly peaceful" and most were walking around taking photos, including many with the Capitol Police that were present.

They disrupted an official act of Congress (to hold a vote). They weren't trying to overthrow the government.Rate This wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 1:15 pmThe people that broke in. "A vote"
You make it sound like they were voting on making March "National Thank a Crossing Guard Month" instead of performing one of the foundational processes in reaffirming or transferring executive power.

Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

When do the protests against the flu shot start?
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

When the mandates start…

Were they trying to OVERTHROW the government?
Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
And if they were confirmed a day later, two days later or a week later, would anything material have changed at all?? Would our Democracy have failed?? Would all of Congress just have picked up their personal items and gone home, thinking they just can't function anymore so it's 'game over'? Let's just say that Congress - for whatever reason - couldn't function for a month or two. Let's just say they all came down with COVID at the same time. Would our country cease to function? Would the Supreme Court say "well, since Congress can't function, there's no use in us trying to function!"
Would all the state legislatures and executives throw in the towel? Since Congress can't function, there's apparently nothing they can do to maintain a society of law and order, so should they just give up?
Does the military go AWOL because Congress can't function for a bit? Is our country left undefended? Do the few folks trying to maintain border security just walk away from their posts and abandon what little we still do to control those points?
Does the Executive Branch just pack up their desks and go home too?
What *really* would happen to the "future of Democracy" if Congress just couldn't operate for any length of time?

They were trying to establish a permanent Trump reign. He would not have left office in 2024. He would say “I have the right to be here for life” and find a way to get his way. All these only work because everybody agrees that’s the rules. If half the country decides they don’t like the rules and want to ignore them that’s not some small deal.
You don’t consider a bunch of armed folks breaking into the Capitol with the intent to kill members of the other party and force their party to do their bidding at gunpoint to be a problem? Not only are you divorced from reality but it has a restraining order against you.

And just how do you suppose they were going to pull that off?Rate This wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 3:13 pmThey were trying to establish a permanent Trump reign. He would not have left office in 2024. You must speak from experience when you talk about "divorced from reality"!

They hadn’t a snowballs chance in hell. The problem is that they tried it in the first place. Normalizing that behavior will embolden them to try something else. It will also ruin the peaceful transfer of power and cause the system to start to fail. What good comes out of any of that?km1125 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 3:42 pmAnd just how do you suppose they were going to pull that off?Rate This wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 3:13 pmThey were trying to establish a permanent Trump reign. Re: How Many Are We Going To Need
The simple truth is we don't know what was the mindset of some of those who took part. To say you know for sure one way or the other is opinion and nothing more.
