But... back to the topic at-hand. It will be interesting to see the coverage and discussion this year on the 20th. Has anything really changed? Are we setting ourselves up for another event like this based on what's going on in Afghanistan right now? I can't believe we're still taking our shoes off in the airport and believing that has any impact on airliner safety!

Thanks for posting that clip. I'm big into 9/11; I was 16 and more into news and politics than the average 16 year old. We all have our story about that day but I'll never mind that right now...except for some comic relief in saying I slept with a big ass butcher knife next to me. What the fuck was I gonna do with that? I was 16 and scared shitless.

To answer the question above, no, nothing has changed. The Taliban getting control back 20 years later (and so close) just puts and uneasy feeling in my gut. Domestically, nothing has changed, either. I remember that summer before 9/11 happened. Americans and politicians bickering like petulant children. People glued to reality TV and stupid shows. Nobody gave a fuck about anyone beyond their front door. I miss that feeling we had for the first few months.

But then shit started happening that I truly believe set us on the path to where we are today. The rhetoric. "If you're not with us, you're against us". "Freedom fries". That attitude got us where we are today. And what makes it even worse is, I thought maybe this virus would bring us all together. Boy, was I fuckin' wrong! If another 9/11 style event happened today, it would be the same ol' shit. Nothing is gonna bring us together. So in that sense, yes. The terrorists won. They brought this country to its knees. It took a little while, but they pulled it off.

The question now is 'who do we dick with next'? We had the Russians for most of the last half of the 20th century. When the Soviet Union collapsed, we didn't really have a direct enemy. Then it was the middle east. Now that that is all over but the choppers, who's next?

The terrorists didn't "win", and they aren't destroying this country. It's being destroyed by subversives within our borders who sometimes use the actions of the terrorists as justifications for their actions.

Where Afghanistan is going is exactly where they were just over 20 years ago. Yes, it is the topic of that clip. The attack that happened 20 years ago and our resolve to pull together after that happened. The OP's point that the "nation hasn’t been the same since" is accurate and unfortunately if (when) something similar happens I really wonder if we'd respond the same way.

Regarding United Airlines Flt 93 that crashed into the field in Somerset County PA,
Sadly no 9/11 conspiracy theorists can explain Flt 93, many claim it never existed, and offer no explanations for the crash site...
And finally...if these attacks were planned by the Bush Admin, why did not the following Administration, Barack Obama, arrest and convict said administration on high treason against the USA?
