While the Rock and Pop songs he wrote never received the credit they deserved, Jake Holmes' recordings, albums, and songs written with Bob Gaudio for The Four Seasons and Frank Sinatra have become cult favorites. While "Dazed and Confused" was often said to be about drugs, Holmes himself said that it was about a woman's feelings when a relationship is ending. This is backed up by such relationships being the theme of the Frank Sinatra Album, "Watertown", which has been called Frank Sinatra's answer to "Pet Sounds". Jake Holmes soon became successful beyond almost anyone's wildest dreams by writing some of the most famous advertising and promotional jingles of all time, the most famous being "Aren't You Hungry For Burger King Now".

The lawsuit against Jimmy Page was mainly about recognition of Holmes writing the original "Dazed and Confused", as Holmes' fortune from jingles is probably in the tens of millions or more.

Re: The Man Who Really Wrote "Dazed and Confused"
Thanks, that was really interesting! I didn't know a thing about Holmes, both as a pop song writer or jingle composer.
There's for sure a long roster of "I had no idea (X) wrote that,", especially in the ad world. Barry Manilow (McDonalds, among many others) and Randy Newman come to mind off the top.

Also "Quick" Joey Levine did a lot of jingles. Some may have been collaborated with others, such as Jake Holmes and Randy Newman on one Dr. Pepper jingle.

Re: The Man Who Really Wrote "Dazed and Confused"
Jake Holmes "So Close" (from "So Close, So Very Hard To Go") Went to # 49 (Hot 100) & # 22 (Adult Contemporary) on Billboard in November of 1970. That was his only charted song on Polydor Records. (audio only) By the way, the late Casey Kasem made a mistake back on December 12, 1970 on "American Top 40" when "So Close" was at # 39 & debuted in the Top 40 BUT it was Stephen Stills "Love The One You're With" that debuted at # 39 on December 12, 1970 so Casey made a mistake!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJgjmYp ... lmes-Topic

My mistake, the album title is "So Close, So Very Far To Go".
