1560am WWYC off the air half the time
1560am WWYC off the air half the time
I'm not sure what's going on here, it seems WWYC is off the air half of the time. They go days without being on, then there off again. The FM Translator on 99.5fm is always on though. When 1560am is on, they don't sound half bad but not sure if it's transmitter or electrical issues causing this?
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
Personally, the whole outfit can burn in hell, for all I care. 99.5 does not legal, by being sold- took 1560 away as a secular station, is totally satellite, non-local and no local information, and oversaturation of religious programming in the market. IMO, it can just stay off, or can just blow up behind those glass doors, where the 1560 transmitter is... the reciever, processor, transmitter and the 1 tower left. Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
If it wasn't for the horrible bad blood, Cumulus should have 'donated' 1560 to the Dickey Brothers not to more out of state crap and no local programming if they knew that they were going to cut-down the four 1470 towers a couple years later and never fix it. Cumulus can't be an Indian Giver as ask for it back and just drop their tax credit?
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
1470s towers still stand, as far as I know. I don't get out to the east side of town much. Years, ago I remember hearing 1560s facility was running at half of what they used to half of what they used to have.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
Heathcliff, I got an urgent phonecall about May of 2019 to head out to Pickle Road. All four towers simply had their guy wires cut and were sitting laying horizontal in the field. Talked to the The City of Oregon who bought the property from the Dickey Brothers, as their Dad was the 2nd to last land owner; City of Oregon assumed the FCC tower assignments and then demo'd them. Broadcast house itself was full of animal dung and would have made a good Halloween spookhouse. It tore me up to see it in such horrible shape. Only technology left that I could see inside the collapsed ceiling studios was the original 1954 Gates Phasors and all of the rest of the racks were stripped-out already. Sad day for me compared to what it was like in the late 70s and early 80's.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
Oh so everything's dismantled and gone I had no idea The City Of Oregon bought the land.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
City of Oregon plans to build a new road from "Downtown" Dustin Road south to Pickle Road towards the East Y via the WOHO properties (2 lots actually). Their little bridge over the ditch though barely fits one car, yet alone regular traffic, so that will definitely have to be rebuilt and up-sized.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
It's been years since I've been down Pickle road, land probably looks strange now without the towers and everything.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
This is a lesson to those whom choose to not maintain anything. I still wonder how long the fur was on top of everything, how much mold was present, and how much leaking RF was coming from the transmitter at the Pickle Palace. See Cumulus NEVER maintaind things, until it's too late.Even the current buildings have OSHA issues because nothing is maintained. Once a toilet under Star leaked for a month, with full building stench, before anyone chose to fix it. A definite health hazard. They do SOME maintenance in major markets, but not enough to get the most out of anything they invested in. So with the building on Pickle being torn down.... nowhere near a shock. Typical Cumulus/Dickeys.
They are so safety conscious, they bolted all the sliding doors shut (fire exits), had exit signs not lit, and wires everywhere on the floor and hanging in the rack room on Arlington. Nobody cared and still doesn't. That's why they thought a fired sales person reported them to OSHA and the fire inspector. It was me. I even sent pictures.

Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
And 1560 was off the air again Wednesday when I checked. I highly doubt they broadcast the statewide Tornado drill too? If you're not gonna do it right, let me run 1560 and translator, problem is Cumulus would probably charge me an obscene rental fee where the transmitter's sitting and use of their last tower; and there's not many AM towers floating around in town that you could hop-on quickly either.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
There off the air half the time anymore. It could be a matter of time until CSN just hands the license in, but they would likely keep 99.5fm.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
I don't see how. No legal means no license for any transmitter. Any person that does not like their programming can easily report them, with a recording. Let's also not forget never hearing any EBS box on 99.5.Heathcliff wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 1:10 pmThere off the air half the time anymore. Just because someone believes or talks about God, does not mean they REALLY do the right thing. This is a prime example.
Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
The issue is.... a local station is not being repeated, to keep the translator. If 1560 is off and they never ever identify any calls or even originating calls on 99.5, that's an illegal translator. CSN was trying to use the dying AM rule with 1560 WWYC. That's why that equipment is where it is, in the transmitter room, next to 1560's transmitter and audio chain. Remember, the reciever box could be at the 99.5 TX site, which would be more efficient.WOHO wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:03 amAnd 1560 was off the air again Wednesday when I checked. Re: 1560am WWYC off the air half the time
What I meant was, all they would have to do, to keep 99.5fm going legally, would be to switch the feed where it was 100% from KAWZ in Twin fall ID, like they had on 100.7. When they were on 100.7, The ID was always "KAWZ Twin falls".
If they can't keep 1560 going, then it's time to turn in the license.
