Lahser Road
Lahser Road
As if there isn’t already enough butchering the pronunciation of Lahser, with so many, including family members, pronouncing it “Lasher,” I today noticed, at the end of an exit on westbound 696 today, a DOT sign directing motorists to “Lasher” Road ahead.

Re: Lahser Road
I once saw a brand new Lahser street sign at Outer Drive in Detroit a few years ago. It was spelled Lasher. I contacted Detroit through their app and the sign was replaced within a couple days.
Re: Lahser Road
I reported it. Let’s see how long it takes to be corrected.

Re: Lahser Road
Maybe they're getting ready to add a new Meijers in that area.
Re: Lahser Road
You do realize that the spelling changes and always has... I think 8 mile is the line (Wayne/Oakland), but I could be wrong.
There was a bit of pride back in the '60s and seventies to identify which side of 8 Mile you lived on.

Re: Lahser Road
Spelling of a proper place name doesn't change. Lahser is always Lahser, in spelling and pronunciation.
During a long-ago MDOT refurb of I-696 there was a "Lasher" sign. After some mild righteous uproar and negative press, it finally got corrected. Don't know why there would be a new, wrong, sign put up now.
A while back I had a disagreement with someone about the spelling of Halsted Rd. in Oakland Co., which showed up wrong on a few online maps as "Halstead."
@Morno, is that "Lasher" signage on the freeway or at the top of the ramp at 11 MIle Road?
Re: Lahser Road
It's at the top of the ramp.
Re: Lahser Road
It's like I can't go home again.

Re: Lahser Road
This is 100% false. My grandparents lived 3 blocks off of Lahser in Redford Twp. It's never been anything but Lahser for its entire length from Outer Dr to Square Lake Rd.

My father (died 1997) insisted it was Lasher, couldn't be taught otherwise.SolarMax wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:42 pmSpelling of a proper place name doesn't change. Lahser is always Lahser, in spelling and pronunciation.

Re: Lahser Road
What the hell does Lahser Road have to do with radio in Metro Detroit/ S.E. Michigan? Shouldn’t this be in Chatterbox?

Another case is people who think they are on 7 Mile, when they really aren't.
7 Mile Road actually ends at Kelly Road, going between a set of row houses and a funeral home.
However, most of the drivers going Eastbound on 7 Mile are turning onto Moross and leaving 7 Mile.
The "7 Mack" shopping center is further south than 6 Mile Road.
By the time the motorist comes to a T at Lake St. Clair, they're actually at the latitude of Lyndon (4.5 Mile).

The same is true of 8 Mile Rd. Being diverged Southeastward. Few people notice that little cutoff behind where Heathkit had been. Most of the traffic continues Southeastbound onto Vernier. I could never convince my mother that Vernier and 8 Mile were two different roads.
Re: Lahser Road
When I was young we lived on Lahser. Always pronounced it Lasher. Sounding wrong any other way.
