1090 now Fox Sports
Re: 1090 now Fox Sports
Comes in decently on the east side, but it is AM, so even the best AM is horrible. Not many vehicles have HD AM and there are maybe 2 portable HD AM radios being manufactured.

The day pattern is a big, wide cloverleaf. Hits most of Wayne, and southern Oakland (to about Waterford) and southern Macomb. Disappears fast as you head downriver. The night pattern is one lobe that goes straight up Telegraph, and beyond. If you believe the maps, the night pattern makes it all the way to Oxford. Basically, the day pattern hits all of the populated areas...from 1965.Mega Hertz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 5:45 pmI picked it up today! SixPlusOne: Yes, I am talking about WBAL at night. I’ve picked that up instead of WCAR, and I’m less than ten miles from the towers, in the null. There is no way they could increase coverage at night. WBAL is directional, but so is KAAY.
During the day, there are co-channels (daytimers) in Fort Wayne and the Dayton area. I can’t remember if there is anything allotted in Ontario causing issues.

I caught it today and all I heard was how to bet the football games this weekend. Sounded like a broadcast out of Las Vegas sports betting place.
Not sure I'll be back.

Years ago, when my job was on the East Side of Detroit (directly across the tracks from DET), WBAL would override WCAR as long as an hour after Detroit sunrise.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 9:19 amWCAR, previously WIID, WTAK, and originally WERB, WBRB's sister station, was a cash machine when Walter Wolpin owned it. WTAK was metro Detroit's first all talk station, and made Lou Gordon famous. The day and night patterns on this facility are very different, and the station actually increases power at night, which is unusual. At night, it goes north, I assume to protect co-channel KAAY Little Rock. And once again, I've dated myself, with all of this ancient history.

I was shocked to actually hear it. In AA and now Brighton you can forget it. Even 1050 loses it at night around here, and I'm not that far north of AA.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:43 amThe day pattern is a big, wide cloverleaf. I need WWJ on FM, also.

I wonder how many actually know 1090am exists? Maybe Fox Sports will be the charm, however when one has to get WDFN's "Sloppy Seconds" , it's a bit like opening up a winter clothing store in San Diego CA.

Inasmuch as it's 250 watts, you can ignore its environmental impact.Pinhead wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 12:19 amLikely not, 1090 is a waste of good electricity. Besides, no one cared about it on WDFN either. If they really wanted to be bold, Sima could of given "The Switch" another try.

Our TV uses more power than AM 1090.

Due to NARBA, it also has to protect the ghost of CKKW.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 9:19 amWCAR, previously WIID, WTAK, and originally WERB, WBRB's sister station, was a cash machine when Walter Wolpin owned it. I wonder if WKBZ in Muskegon is also a factor here. They are on 1090 as well however they are daytime only.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 9:19 amAt night, it goes north, I assume to protect co-channel KAAY Little Rock. And once again, I've dated myself, with all of this ancient history.
