Solar Cycle 25 Is Upon Us

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Solar Cycle 25 Is Upon Us

So long, cycle 24. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

But, they're predicting #25 will be even weaker than 24.

Just put up more wire and get on in the night hours :D
I have had fun on 160, 80 and 60 M, making QSOs,
while the other ops are on line moaning about 20 M being flat !! :D :D :D

MUF of 6MHz - so forget about coast to coast on 10 meters, or even hearing WWV on 20MHz?
That's too bad- but lack of sunspots and solar activity should be good in that we don't end-up
with a giant solar flare that would hit Earth right after the Covid vaccines make their way around
we would have a new disaster on our hands with satellites and GPS ruined, cell system in tatters
and the power grid shot to hell.
We don't need any massive solar events these days, although it means waiting
another 11 years to have fun playing radio- crap, I'll be 'old' then!

I'm old now. This may be my last solar cycle

I'm assuming that Arnie's estimate of 6MHz was for nighttime.

I'm still hearing a little skywave propagation in the 15MHz spectrum during the day.

Having Fun on the HF Bands
We still have some sporadic E-layer propagation , Managed to fill some log lines on 17, 15 and 12 M early this summer and looking forward to the December openings. Looks like I have 31 states worked on 12 M (24.1 MHz) Just started getting on there a few years ago.
I have been having some fun on the lower freq bands, 1.8, 3.5 and 5.3 MHz range, this fall ! Down south as far as FL and out to the rocky mountains. Just running 100 W and wire antennas in the trees.
I just got my 10 M Yagi antenna back up after over a year without it, hope to be making some noise on that band again this winter E-season.

Glen Hauser's solace forecast this week says solar flux will get up to 75 by Nov 5. That's still pretty low, but at least it's coming to life at last. It's been stuck at around 68 to 70 for months now.
