Q105.5 in Toledo is stunting

Post by MWmetalhead » Fri Sep 04, 2020 4:26 pm

Supposedly, a revamped sound will be revealed this coming Tuesday.

My guess? A return to the station's longtime "Star 105" identity.

Appears to be at 3:00 PM today. They keep mentioning 9-8-20 at 5 am. They NEVER say the whole moniker. I also noticed that if you listen closely, they mention "9-2-5 Kiss FM" very low, barely noticable.

Must be why they edited out the "Eric Chase" part of the Legal/TOH. Before that, They had some "music hour" legals, of a MUCH lesser quality (Pansy AC typed). Hopefully, we don't have to hear about the guy's podcast anymore. We knew Eric was voicetracked, as they made it way too obvious.

The more I think about it... the more I'm thinking it's a revamp of the morning show, to compete with Kiss Toledo... or they are forced to get "The Burt Show." I'm thinking it's not as big as they want us to think.

Music list:

18:44 All American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret
18:41 Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me

Appears that they re not in a full stunt. "Weekends with Lila" is still on, playing currents and recurrents (on a throwback weekend stunt). Willing to bet that they still have Carson Daily "Rewind" Sunday morning. This tells me that it's not much of a change in format. A full format change would have meant no current/recurrent programs from WW1 (cleared by corporate, for affidavits). It's clearly not a big change, but they want us to think it will be. Megan, who only VT's for Kiss Toledo, so she is not in contract, coming to Q105? Old Breakfast Club or old Kiss Toledo morning show peeps joining Eric? Either way, the "Star" and "Q105" morning shows are way too young for the 25-54 demo. Been that way, since Franceman was there.

From my experience, stations play games for the smallest moves.... just like the Wolf is doing for their "Famous voice" posts. Another great way to go to Spotify. Gets the listener away from that drama.

By the way, the stunt imaging is a little too Children's Rock format. Love the female voice... but the production under her is way overdone for what they are airing this weekend.

A real change would be to change it into a "Listen at Work" radio station, if there were more people still working at offices as there were a year ago, but I guess we'll find out Tuesday Morning just how underwhelming it will be?

Just as I suspected, Carson Daily was on at 8 am this morning. Nothing big, except marketing drama. They're still gonna be Hot AC. like I said, It's probably just a morning show expansion. I doubt "The Zone" will go on 105.5 either, especially since it had not gotten well numbers on 100.7.

It's the lazy person's way out. They could have EASILY played just the commercials from each syndicated show (it's really the only thing that's contracted) and continued their stunting. Based on his video on Facebook, Eric Chase is still going to be on mornings... and my less-than-educated guess is a direct attack on Kiss. Is that a wise idea?

I'm leaning towards the new 105.5 playing current hits and 90's and 2000's hits. A 50/50 mix.

Certainly not. 4300 watts vs 50,000 watts. Not comparable. Kiss is also more historic. Apples to fish sticks. Secondly, Eric gets no ratings. Podcast comes first, FM studio second. Sure Eric is local, but is too impertinent to look at. I have spoken of stupid crap he uses as topics. Why ask the listener if they go to movies, then not take calls on that? Hamburger Mary's drag qweens is another. Also, he is also way too ADD, when he VT's or talks. Starts 1 thing, goes to a nother, then starts a 3rd thing. Why corporate is not on him, is beyond me. Nobody does airchecks anymore? That's right E-Skimmer does not work, when the mic is off, and only records Program or Program 1.

Reasons can be way beyond what I speak of here. Bottom line, is David or Goliath gonna win in this battle?

Direct attacks require a lot of investment, something Cumulus has not shown much interest in.

Since many people know that market better than me (I've been gone for 4 years and don't really pay much attention) what's the hole? K100 and WRQN are your money makers, WXKR keeps WIOT from domination, what do you do with 105.5 that might enhance the entire cluster? (And of course, I'm thinking that this is exactly what they will NOT do.)

My first assumption was correct. They got the Bert Show. Another on-target bullseye.

Also a new logo and imaging. Same music at the "old" Q.

Eric's bio is still up on the site. https://www.q1055.com/2017/10/18/eric-chases-bio/

Now if Eric is going to be a PD or even Promotions, he cannot be like Cliff and keep slacking. From that I see and gather, They both have their priorities wrong. We will know more at 3 today.

I knew that... hence "at 3 today" in my last posting. He better not VT it!

ERIC: Studio first, podcast second! Do your podcast middays, not during your show.

Also, they forgot to change a logo: https://www.q1055.com/station-information/ (the old "Q105.5" logo). If they cannot use the current branding, how can they brand my business (if I really had one)? I want up to date- innovative, outside of the box!!! The new logo is the same exact cookie cutter as WQGN in New London, CT. They just changed "today's hits" and made it "Toledo," then added outline. NOT ORIGINAL, out of the box thinking. Not a shock.

I do not look to any of the Toledo stations, TV or Radio for innovation. I look at the Toledo Market as BLEH..... Boring! Same lame songs, same mixes, dull voices, non-compelling chatter between songs, artificially hitting too many posts, lame spots and production, loose segues... nothing positive to leave a positive mark on Toledo or NW Ohio, local or national spotlight.. "The New" Q105 will blend in, once again.

Recurrent- heavy CHR and a syndicated morning show- yeah, that’ll take down Kiss!

They’ve been toeing the Hot AC/CHR line since nixing the sleepy Hot AC at Star in 2012, and has come no closer to competing with Kiss. This stunt and playlist shift won’t get them any closer.

This is another version of Indy's "Now FM." Won't be around long! They will give it up, just like "The Zone " So far, that's what Cumulus did with 105 so far. Why the hell does Cumulus think they can even take listeners away from 50,000 watt stations... with 4300 watts, much less compete with them?

The Bert Show was as dumb of a move as Eric Chase and Andrew Z were!
