The Ghost Of Bill Kennedy

Post by sfpcc » Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:11 pm

This afternoon Channel 50 is showing two films from the 60's, Barefoot In The Park and That Touch Of Mink. This is something you would see on Bill Kennedy back in the 70's early 80's. I'm not sure who made this decision but I applaud it.

Most of the youngsters on this board have no clue who Bill Kennedy was. Most of them might think he was a president or something.

It wasn't President Bill Kennedy, it was President Ed Kennedy.

Or President Jamie Kennedy or even President George Kennedy.

The weekend movies are satellite-delivered from syndication services, so you will never know who programs the feeds. Nobody local, for sure,

It's either those, or infomercials. And I rather watch an old movie than watching the same old colon blow infomercial again.

My main memory of Bill Kennedy is from sitting in front of the TV on winter afternoons after school, just wishing his program would finally end so the cartoons would start.

It was. She hosted the show from 1960 to 1981. It seemed every Thanksgiving they'd show The Yogi Bear Movie, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that. Also the Bing Crosby Bob Hope Road Movies seemed to be on a lot.

I remember Rita Bell, my mom was always watching her, she was on at 9am M-F on channel 7, and I think she was always calling people to win a contest, my mom always entered and waited by the phone but Rita never called...

I remember she had a call-in segment on Prize Movie where viewers could win a daily, growing jackpot if they could identify a few bars of a song she would play. To my then-young ears at least, the songs were very obscure.

Yup I think you are right, I just have vivid memories of my mom in the morning, (when school was out) and sitting in the chair by the TV, those xtra large hair curlers in her hair, by the phone....watching the Channel 7 Prize Movie...

I remember seeing Bill Kennedy in a locally made comedy movie that aired on TV4 (IIRC) back in the 80's. The movie featured many Detroit celebrities and was about the first Thanksgiving feast with the pilgrims and native Americans. I remember both groups sitting together and watching Bill Kennedy. Does anyone remember the movie and know where I can find it? I have searched youtube and didn't see it there.

If course, that couldn't work today - In the Shazam era😣
