Post by bmw » Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:21 pm

Sounds like they will literally play just about anything. Been listening for a few hours, so far have heard:

-Tool
-Skillet
-Rage Against the Machine
-Linkin Park
-Five Finger Death Punch
-Metallica
-Green Day
-Tupac

I hope they continue to do this every Friday.

Great list...other than Skillet (a rock band for 15 year olds, IMO).

It's interesting they even have those artists in their library! I'm impressed.

WMTE 101.5 did that a few years ago when it first went back on the air. Hadn't really selected a format yet I don't think. I called in and got Scotty Mac to play "newer" music from old artists (ie, songs by 70s artists they wrote in the 90s/2000s). Was a lot of fun.

What if "someone" called in and requested something from The Captain and Tennille?

The transmitter would go into overload.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name
Paramore - Misery Business

A few songs that caught my attention today:

Course of Nature - Caught in the Sun
Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams
Slipknot - The Devil in I
Volbeat - The Devil's Bleeding Crown

They even played some really old 60s tunes. And the usual smattering of 80s/90 requests that rarely see airplay these days. A bizarre mix of music to say the least, but it sure beats stale corporate playlists.

Hard to monetize that playlist, even though Rock 105 plays most of the harder artist, they still balance it out with familiarity. As we learned in the 90's with modern rock/alternative formats, "too cool for the room" doesn't pay the bills. Blarney Stone has been trying to generate money from a deep cut/obscure rock format for years without much success.

Well....it is only for a half a day a week (Fridays til like 6 pm), and it actually gives me a reason to tune into terrestrial radio in my work shop once a week.

EDIT - and maybe I'm just weird in that I like hearing some hard stuff mixed in with cheesey 80s/90s pop music. The really hard stuff is probably only 10-20% of what they've been playing the past few Fridays.

If Governor Whitmer has her way, it just might. They promote it as a fun-music-at-home type of format for during the pandemic when you can't go to work.
