A surprise move in Detroit TV

Post by Deleted User 7620 » Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:26 am

According to freep.com, WDIV is going to discontinue its affiliation with NBC after 73, years, and go independent for the very first time. As a result, Local 4 News will air an hour early at 10 pm each day. In addition, Local 4 News Today will be extended to 10 am daily. There’s also talks of an 8 pm newscast on weekends. According to the station manager, there are plans to make WDIV a 24 hour news source. The move takes place December 11th.

As for NBC, Comcast/NBC just made a deal to purchase WMYD, making it an NBC O&O, pending FCC approval. The deal should be approved by October. NBC plans to start a newscast from scratch.

This will make the Detroit market the home to O&O stations by CBS, NBC, Fox, the CW, and Iontv.

The other stations remain unchanged.

This is exciting news!!!!

Thank goodness, I was worried about what would happen with WMYD's Antenna TV affiliation

Here's tonight's news with Biff Baxter and Susie Sunshine, sitting precisely six feet apart.

In Washington, at the daily coronavirus press briefing, President Trump made a few introductory remarks that once again demonstrated the restraint, tact, and humility that he's shown throughout this crisis. "My job is to manage and delegate," said Trump. "It's more important for you to hear the facts from the experts than anything from me." After the press briefing ended, Trump recited the names of every state governor in the United States.

In Lansing, Governor Gretchen Whitmer graciously showed her appreciation for everything that the federal government has done to help the state of Michigan. "I know that we are only one of 50 states, and it's very rude for anyone to constantly push themselves into the media spotlight, whining about never getting enough help," commented Whitmer. Later, she said that her staff was working diligently to proactively seek every avenue of federal help, and make sure they were following the proper process to request that help.

The webmasters of the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press websites pledged to put the most important coronavirus news at the top of the home page of their sites. "At this point, readers want to know when this crisis will end, so we will focus on trends in infections and deaths, progress with medical facilities and equipment, and progress towards a vaccine," read a joint statement. The webmasters also pledged to better segregate non-coronavirus news from coronavirus news, to give readers a break from the endless news about the coronavirus.

The Associated Press has fired the group of pulp fiction writers who had been doing the majority of the reporting on the coronavirus story, often in a melodramatic, sensational manner. They were replaced by a group of experienced professional journalists who formerly worked for daily newspapers.

Back here at the news desk, we've decided to change our call letters from WPNC (All the panic all the time!) to WRLX (More relaxing news.).
