"Ask Your Neighbor." A long-time mainstay on Detroit radio stations. "Bob, how do I get rid of COVID-19" in my house"?

Thank you. You've got a lucky face. The end.

I remember watching "Milky's Party Time" on WWJ-TV Channel 4 in the 1960s and knew Bob Allison as the Twin Pines milkman (that what they were called then before gender-neutral phrases like "milk vendor") who would do the commercials live. Fast forward years later when I was working toward a degree in communications, I met up with the production crew at Thunderbowl for a taping of "Bowling for Dollars". While I met Mr. Allison only briefly, I got a good sense of the type of person he was. It was obvious from watching him that he had an easy rapport with EVERYONE, whether it was contestants, the audience and his co-workers. There were several technical issues that came up and forced some fast video editing on the two-inch reel to reel tapes in a production truck the size of a Greyhound bus. (keep in mind this was well before 3/4 video cassettes were used for production and the easier editing systems became common). Bob just took it all in stride. No Bill Bondsian or prima-donna style rants and ravings. "Let's press on regardless." seemed to be Bob Allison's mantra, for lack of a better term. What you saw in person you saw/heard on the air. RIP Bob.

Ask Your Neighbor was never on my regular listening list, in fact I only tuned in a couple times. However, it was obvious how much Bob connected to his listeners, and how it seemed like an extended family. The man certainly had talent. One of the very last of the classic broadcasters.

I didn't listen to his show however once at Westland Center he was doing his show in a remote booth constructed right there in the mall which I observed.

I can’t recall the particular service that Bob was pitching, but 40 years ago, or so, an ad would run in the Tri-Cities where he would allude to “my radio program” with no graphic acknowledgement to who he was, or where his program could be heard. Regardless, he was smooth and engaging, even in that TV spot. Rest In Peace, Mr. Allison.

They did cover this in the show and if my memory was good enough, I could tell you.

It was a good show. I only remember him from the "Bowling for Dollars" show but they covered a lot of the Ask Your Neighbor time too and tracked his path from Indiana to Chicago to Detroit.
