Actually this may be a good thing upon reflection. I think the danger of this virus is being overblown and hyped for lots of different reasons, but it is giving us real-time practice for the day that something truly horrible is making it's way around the world.

Think of it as a drill. We will learn our weaknesses, and be better for it going forward.

In theory, that's true.

The problem is - the people who should be using this as a "lessons learned" opportunity will probably fail to do so.

So far, the general media's avoided talking about a very scary possibility: bioterrorism

💯

Banning crowds of more than 100 is 100% unconstitutional.

I don’t give up my rights because of an emergency.

You don’t see slavery being legalized because of an emergency.
You're obviously free and within your rights to get 100 friends, enemies or total strangers and gather unlawfully.

Be sure to tell the media, so they can screw up the story.

It might involve the police, and that would give you another topic to work off of.

Media hype, Gov't officials, along with State and Local leaders, people in a panic, hoarding meat, toilet paper, cleaning supplies from stores, cancellations of many many events are doing more damage then the G*D Damned virus itself....

I don’t want to get too political in the broadcasting forum, but I don’t believe this is the role of government. I am for personal responsibility. Government, no matter who is in charge, seems to make things worse and most costly financially.

TC Talks always trashes the US. It’s not just criticism, there are things I criticize and dislike about it, but he goes into full hatred.

No it's not. There is extensive case law that dictates it is not.

It's like that old Mad magazine feature where you look at a picture, then fold it, then see something different. In this case, you see "coronavirus pandemic," fold the page, and see "coronavirus panic."

It was a pleasure today to do several things out in public, watching people go about with their daily lives, without hearing anything at all about the coronavirus, and realizing that this is real life, not the mass hysteria that has consumed so many. I also didn't watch any TV news or buy a newspaper, just glanced at the headlines on the Internet.

Seconded -- this has nothing to do with broadcasting.

The tone of the media coverage is part of the story. I've avoided TV news and newspapers to help keep from getting stressed out from the coverage of every breaking development. I did pick up the Wall Street Journal today to get the second and third day perspective on things.

People are selling toilet paper on E Bay. :rollin

On a serious note, it does make me feel good about the purchase of a 30 day supply of MRE's for my family a few years ago. If people go this apeshit over something like this, I can only imagine what would happen if our power grid went down for a month or some other serious catastrophe.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

I confess to glancing at that too. The one scene with the full body suits got my attention first. Satire helps keep us sane.

There was a report where residents of Italy would be getting a free subscription to Porn Hub for the duration of the nationwide lockdown period (until April 3), as a way to "entertain" themselves while they were forced to stay home.

I trying to think of a joke about Purell, (Apologies for going into the gutter. Humor on a lover level also keeps us sane.)
