The biggest enemy to free OTA television is the conditional access system built into ATSC 3.0
When the broadcasters get it implemented, they will be just as bad as the cable/satellite providers.
The good news is that people can get info and entertainment from other sources. Look at the newspapers. They force you to pay too. However, many people go around this all the time. Newspaper collection apps, CNN online, Haystack, Channel 1, CBSN Detroit (on it's way soon) and other cities, radio news, etc. People will steer clear of the new subscription channels.
Maybe it'll soon be time to bring this back?

I just don't think most of the public cares anymore. Things went from analog wireless TX to wifi and data. Stations that charge will be out of the households of America. Remember some CANNOT afford to pay. They will seek free WiFi. Remember stations scrambling in the 80's? Those of us who did not want to pay to watch WXON, in the day watched other channels. Catch what's being laid down? The public, for whom the licenses serve, will dictate what happens and how. Pay/subscription TV will falter. It's cutting off their nose, despite their face... or biting the hand that feeds them.

Libs are always looking for something for free.
Donald Trump was and is the best president this country has ever had. And he will return to glory as our leader again.

Sweetie.... the laws are about equal access to information, ie., public interest. Has nothing to do with anyone getting anything for free. Take that shit to the P. P. section.
