MacDonald-Garber's son gets full control of WKAD

Post by ftballfan » Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:48 am

Just saw this: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.ex ... _num=87890

Trish assigned full ownership of WKAD to her son. It is also mentioned that this son had divested his share in WZTC.

I think MacGarb will be buying one of 92.5, 101.9, or 106.7 in the near future.

Excellent detective work!

I agree with you. Patricia's divestiture of her ownership interest in WKAD gives her room to acquire one more station now.

She already was managing member and 52% owner of the licensee of WZTC, so whatever deal was transacted between she and her son regarding WZTC is moot from an ownership cap standpoint.

My guess is she'll acquire either 106.7 or 101.9. Probably the former. And if she does, I suspect she will use 106.7 to simulcast one of her existing stations as opposed to placing a unique format there, but who knows - I could be wrong!

Which one you thinking about Metalhead? First thought is Lite 96

Only thing that may make sense is a simulcast of WMBN.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

There would be no reason to simulcast Lite 96 unless she is picking up 101.9. If that were to occur, I agree a simulcast might make sense.

Four formats could potentially be simulcast on - or completely moved to - 106.7:
- Bob-FM (adding 106.7 would greatly expand market reach);
- 96.7 The Bull
- 93.7/AM 1340 The Ticket (which would bring Sports back to 106.7);
- 1270 WMKT (this would be a total relocation, in all likelihood).

Of course, what I'd truly love to see is a Classic Country format on 106.7. Not old timey Country from the 60's and 70's. I'm talking about a format where 85%+ of the music is from 1985 to 2005.

I bet you've seen 105.9 WNKN's recent ratings in the Cincinnati market, Zzand. :blink
I have no idea what their 25-54 #'s look like, but their beauty pageant 6+ results are stunning!

There would be no simulcast restriction for WMKT 1270 either.

Sooo, besides ftballfan who obsesses about Roy and floats that he's selling about every month, anyone else heard about WLDR being for sale?

No one?

I know TC Talks, he has always harped that 101.9 was going to be sold, mostly to a non profit, just figured there was bad blood there. How about another off the wall idea, She and Beiderman mirror each other's formats pretty well, so she buys 106.7 and puts Rock on it. Not that the market needs another rock station but it would keep her on par with Ross.

I've got to think it will be Sports or Country. Sports, only because the market is already familiar with the format on the frequency; however, if you're not presently making money from sports programming, you probably wouldn't go in that direction, as it's about the sales team in that format. Country would be a very good move, as it's the key revenue format in both competitors clusters -- TCM in Midwestern and MKC in Black Diamond, and yet TCM's dominance is in the southern portion of the metro, and MKC's to the north. 106.7 straddles both and everything in between -- which is mostly rural, a dominant trait in country audiences. And I'm with you; an 80's-00's format would be a home run. Think George, Reba, Randy, Garth, BnD, with a little splash of only the top recent artists that have proven they'll be around, like Carrie, Luke, etc... and no country pop. It would be an easy sell, especially in those rural areas that fill the gap between Petoskey and TC, regardless of ratings.

What about a mix format? Somewhere between Lite and KHQ?

$10,000 donation to Smile FM to get the WKPK call letters back?
The .7 makes the difference in putting together a full-blown rhythmic CHR?
106KHQuieter as a mid/hot AC?
And Eaze 96.3 into a "lighter" format?

Roy will never sell to Trish. ftballfan is truly delusional. But we already knew that.

There's no reason to do that. What would be the point? To duplicate cume you're already collecting with 96.3 & 105.9 and partially cannibalize those stations' AQH shares in the process? To crowd out the supernatural force known as North FM? :lol

Giving Bob-FM broader reach would provide a viable at-work listening option for those who feel Lite is too wimpy or for folks who aren't necessarily country music fans.

Also, BigFreq did a marvelous job summarizing the competitive advantages of a gold-based Country format.
