Because it’s built into their contracts and if you object before signing then Sinclair will say thanks, but we’ll just hire someone else. When you’re looking for a new job, why would you risk losing the job and being banned from being hired for potential jobs at one of the largest local broadcasters in the country?
That’s why the FCC needs to look at current ownership rules to prevent the type of arrangements that allow Sinclair and other mega broadcasters from using these sort of anti-worker tactics.
Great addition to NBC25/FOX66
Re: Great addition to NBC25/FOX66
If Dave Bondy — not Blondie — wishes to take a job in his home state to be closer to family, that is his right. And he shouldn’t be forced to sign these anti-competitive, anti-worker clauses that Sinclair puts into its contracts and enforces if/when one of its workers find a better job, better market, position that pays more money, etc. As 101 says, workers are getting screwed coming and going.

Agreed. You don’t need an agent unless you plan to go to New York, LA, Chicago. Other than that, it’s a waste of money.

Then that brings up another question regarding the payout for getting out of a contract. How does that all work if one goes from one Sinclair station to another Sinclair station (As Kristen has done)? Does that "rule" still apply? Or was it a non-issue for going from one station to the another also owned by Sinclair?
Also, how many subsidiaries does Sinclair have to allow for this massive duopoly in smaller markets?

No, you can “transfer” to another SBG station without penalty... but Kristen would have had to sign a new 2-3 year contract.
Sinclair currently owns or operates 170 local TV stations across the country, plus regional sport networks like Fox Sports Detroit and the Tennis Channel.
The FCC has signed off on many of these side-car agreements like they have here in Flint. Sinclair technically owns only Fox66. Armstrong Williams owns NBC 25. And Cunningham Broadcasting (owned by a relative of Sinclair’s David Smith) is the operator of CW46.
