That license should have been pulled years before it was pulled. Sad to think that if Lake Michigan Broadcasting/Synergy Media had held on a couple more years, 1340 would have been able to get a translator (1450 in Ludington has a translator)
Also, WTCU had its license pulled before it even had a chance to go on the air! It worked out for the best as WTCU was only proposed to be a Class C3 and the eventual occupier of 95.9 Fife Lake, WLJW, was able to come on as a C2 on the WJZQ tower.
100.1 Bear Lake should have had its license cancelled years ago as well, but it is somehow still licensed, although it's only operated for a total of roughly one year over the last 25 years (100.1 had been mostly silent even before it ended up in the Henderson fold). I think 100.1 Bear Lake is the only thing blocking WQON from going a full 100kW and possibly moving closer to Traverse City.
If 100.1 Bear Lake were to have its license cancelled and allocation deleted, would another FM have to change its COL to Bear Lake? If that were the case, WTCM-FM would likely be the one changing its COL as it would be the only move that wouldn't require other COL changes.
Re: Roy loses another station....
The FCC has been very insistent on keeping allotments in the middle of nowhere. It's really not serving those communities. It just prevents more competition in larger communities, serving a larger population. When the Bear Lake station, then WRQT, went on the air, there weren't nearly the number of stations that there are now. Occasionally, a large group owner buys all the chess pieces and puts it where they really want, like the Olds Tower in Lansing. You can say that "those are the rules", but they keep changing them anyway, and many rules are just plain silly. Canada's format rules and CanCon are silly, but their allotment rules are much better, allowing stations to protect each other with reduced facilities and directional antennas, and in some cases allowing received interference. Considering all the now "short spaced" facilities that were authorized under since ever changing rules circa 1960, received interference is usually not that big of a deal.
Forcing WTCM-FM to change its COL to Bear Lake would be the Broadcasting equivalent of a sign of the end of the world.

Why would WTCM-FM be forced to move its COL? Why not move Christian-format WLJN?
Re: Roy loses another station....
Or WIAA, then WICA (licensed to Traverse City proper) could change its COL to Interlochen.organman95 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 8:53 amWhy would WTCM-FM be forced to move its COL? Why not move Christian-format WLJN?
WTCM, WIAA, and WOLW are the only non-Henderson FMs to put a city-grade signal over Bear Lake. WLJN's 60dBu comes up short of Bear Lake (they have a null in that direction to protect 89.7 WLMN)

It won't happen.organman95 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 8:53 amWhy would WTCM-FM be forced to move its COL? Why not move Christian-format WLJN?
