My choice is "Whiskey Train" - Procol Harum

Yours?

Another good one, "Time Has Come Today" - The Chambers Brothers
(I linked the long version)

I'm thinking cowbell was mainly used as a "natural" sound effect here, much like "Grazing in the Grass", as well as a rhythm instrument.

No one has mentioned the song that inspired the classic SNL sketch “Don’t fear the reaper” by BOC 😳

Even though it's somewhat obvious at this point Don't Fear The Reaper is also one of the great Halloween songs. I remember seeing BOC at Todds in 1992. Buck Dharma did the solo while looking straight up.

Another great cowbell song is Hair Of The Dog.

John Bonham used it often. Good Times, Bad Times is a favorite.

I hate to sound like a fanboy (which I am!), but:

"Power Failure" - Procol Harum, off the album Broken Barricades
"Bringing Home the Bacon" - Procol Harum, off the album Grand Hotel
"The Unquiet Zone" - Procol Harum, off the album Procol's Ninth

One hit wonder, Redeye "Games" (January 1971) went to # 27 on Billboard Hot 100 Charts.
