Make no mistake about it - the media is rooting for a recession

Post by bmw » Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:56 pm

All of today's headlines are about the DOW plunge and the bond market, and all headlines specifically raise worries about a recession. I have no doubt that the media is ROOTING FOR a recession. It is the only way Trump loses. And they'll happily push the narrative that a recession is coming if they think it will put a Democrat in the White House in 2020. That is how deranged these people are.

The DOW is still higher than it was in early June. Right now it is down 1800 points off its high in mid-July. It lost over 5,000 points in late 2018 over just a two and a half month span and it quickly recovered.

If a recession DOES come before the election, the likes of MSNBC commentators and New York Times writers will be giddy.

The media don't care about people they consider deplorables. They want to see them lose their investments while everyone pays for government and media private pensions. That scenario collapsed the economy in Greece and European countries.

Relax, everybody. Take a deep breath. The stock market isn't the economy.

It's days like this that make me glad to be a socialist. I won't lose a minute of sleep tonight. The stock market means nothing to me.

I moved to money market because of rising interest rates.

Wall Street could care less about Trump or his BS. He's single-handedly tanking Obama's economic turnaround with his ill-conceived trade war and promoting the underemployment crisis as a boom.

The truth is that when 2-year notes yield better than 10-year, trouble is coming. Sorry facts are getting in the way of Trump's economic fantasies.

The stupid voters conned by TV tycoon Trump who put him into the white house always blame everyone else that they were such easy marks for him (and Putin) to manipulate.

Trump’s mentally Ill with Narcissistic Personality DISORDER, dudes. That’s why he talks and acts crazy.

That’s also why anyone who gets in a relationship of any kind with him ends up screwed. That’s why a recession is too close for comfort. That’s why he’s a George Wallace rerun of racism, that’s why he is attracted to tyrants and cozies tight with dictators, that’s why he daily lies with alacrity, that’s why he tortures and traumatizes kids, that’s why he took his enablers with him to Washington, that’s why his white house is a revolving door, and his entire administration a parking lot with a bunch of empty parking spaces. He’s absolutely nuts. As crazy as they come.

It’s very important he not be reelected. If he continues to ignore reality and barrel into recession land it’s his own damn fault. And it’s his voter’s faults that they can’t see their president is a ranting, raving lunatic.

"Recession" is the new drum beat. Here are the headlines:

CNN - Trump 2020 can't afford a recession

Washington Post - How a recession could doom Trump's 2020 reelection

CNBC - Bond Market's recession signal reflects US-China trade war damage, asia expert Stephen Roach says

MSNBC - Trump economy nearing a recession?

Rolling Stone - The Next Recession is Going to be Brutal

NPR - Dow Tumbles 800 Points as Bond Markets Signal Recession

USA Today - Recession Ahead? Dow, stocks tank on fears that bond market signals a downturn

Politico - Wall Street sees risk of recession rising

Reuters - Predicting the next US recession

Time - Recession Warning as Yield Curve Inverts in US and UK

Then, you get to a LOCAL news source (WRAL - an NBC affiliate in North Carolina), and you get this headline: "Are we heading for recession? Financial experts say 'no'"

And of course Fox (Business) - "Economist Art Laffer says US recession may not be imminent"

The anti-Trump bias here is astounding. I guarantee you would NOT see even half of these headlines right before an election year in an identical economy if Hillary were President. All these news outlets would be trotting out financial experts who say not to worry about a recession.

Obama turnaround? Do you mean quantitative easing?

The market was supposed to tank if Trump won, and we were supposed to go into a recession, remember? Their timing was just off by a few years, nevermind that the economy is in boatloads better shape than it was in Jan 2016.

The media hates heterosexual Christian white men. They are discriminated against in education. They don't work much in the media, private industry jobs due to HR, or government jobs anymore, so they tend to be self employed contractors, and have no pensions. Now they want to confiscate what they have struggled to save and invest, to pay for government pensions for others. They do this by taxation, and trying to crash the economy and stock market, to punish them even more.

Then they wonder why they support Trump. What else can they do to get by? Who else even pretends to help them?

I'm a white heterosexual man. I've never felt any bias against me by the media. Maybe they found out I'm not a Christian.

Sorry, but a recession *is* coming. Might take another 12 to 18 months to officially arrive, but one is around the corner. We are due. We typically see a recession within a decade's time from the prior one. In fact, it is rare to go a complete decade without a recession.

A lot of small cap & mid cap companies are seeing their cash flow leverage multiples rise to levels that are making lenders uncomfortable. Tightness in the labor pool isn't helping. The trade war definitely isn't helping.

Capital markets are going to tighten as debt comes up for maturity, and we're going to see an increase in corporate bankruptcy filings.
The media don't care about people they consider deplorables. They want to see them lose their investments while everyone pays for government and media private pensions. That scenario collapsed the economy in Greece and European countries.
I agree that most news media employees would be happy with anything that harms Trump's reelection chances. Regarding your other point - in my opinion, new defined benefit pension plans should be made illegal. Defined benefit pensions are financially dangerous instruments with incredible risk to fund sponsors and pensioners alike.
