Another cable lineup from Wyandotte's system, this one over two years later from my previous post on this system. This was their first lineup after the city-wide rebuild and channel realignment. At the time, it was a big deal in Wyandotte since that meant that I was finally going to get additional cable networks the city had missed out on until then - even ZDTV and Romance Classics, which was amazing in itself given that both networks had relatively low clearance at the time. Additionally, Disney Channel was now a basic service on this system, no longer a pay holdout.

However, Wyandotte did lose TVO at this time. On a related note, were any Canadian stations other than CBET and TVO ever carried anywhere in SE Michigan?

According to the FCC Cable Search, CKCO was once carried in most of Macomb County north of 16 Mile and east of Gratiot and in Port Huron. CFPL was also carried in Port Huron and CIII was carried at the Selfridge ANG Base. All of these systems, which of course had CBET as well, were originally run by Harron Communications, which was sold to Jones Intercable for two seconds before it was acquired by Comcast.

All of these areas have since been consolidated into a single Comcast system with the headend in Chesterfield. To this date, it still has both CBET and CIII in both SD and HD.

Unknown cable company - Three Rivers, MI (April 1992)
That system was also owned at the time by Jones Intercable.

Found something interesting. No clue what the channel order was, but found an application from 1975 from TCI in Cheboygan with these channels listed as channels to be carried:

CJICTV
WBKBTV
WCMLTV
WFLD
WGN TV
WGTU
WHMETV
WJMNTV
WJRTTV
WKBDTV
WTOMTV
WWUPTV

Would there have been anything else available at that time? I can't think of any channels aside from HBO that were around in '75
Is there a way to look up a channel list from past decades?

Here's a 1980 Cheboygan listing from americanradiohistory.com:

2 - CJIC
5 - WTOM
9 - WWUP

WGTU, WJRT and WKBD were also carried, as was one of those old-timey real-time weather camera channels that were commonplace on 1970's cable systems. This system only carried a total of seven channels, which was a rarity even for 1980. Sun Cablevision owned this system in 1980, not TCI.

Thanks for the info. Had not heard of americanradiohistory. Until Charter took over and connected Cheboygan to TC headend, Cheboygan always had a smaller lineup than most in Northern MI. Also, fiber wasn't brought into Cheboygan until 1996/97, which was also later than many in the Northern MI market.

Here's the cable lineup for Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in December of '89:

(3) WNEM Bay City (NBC)
(4) WKBD Detroit (Fox) (mistakenly listed as an ABC affiliate by TV Guide)
(5) News/Sports/Finance
(6) CJIC Sault Ste. Marie (CBC)
(7) TVOntario
(8) La Chaine Francaise (now TFO)
(9) WWUP Sault Ste. Marie (CBS)
(10) Community Access
(11) CHBX Sault Ste. Marie (CTV)
(12) WJRT Flint (ABC)
(13) CBLFT Toronto (SRC)
(15) Family Channel
(16) First Choice
(18) TSN
(19) CNN
(20) Nashville Network
(21) A&E
(22) YTV
(23) WCML Alpena (PBS)
(24) Vision TV
(25) Weather Now
(26) MCTV (CICI) Sudbury (CTV) (CHBX and CJIC didn't join the MCTV system until the following year, IIRC)
(27) House of Commons
(28) Ontario Legislature
(30) Home Shopping

Interestingly, neither of northern Michigan's ABC or NBC affiliates were apprently carried in the Sault then. By contrast, if the TV Guide listing is accurate, Elliot Lake (midway between the Sault and Sudbury) got WGTQ/WGTU on two channels. Elliot Lake also got WTVS (also on two channels), CKNC (MCTV-CBC Sudbury), WGRZ (NBC Buffalo) and CHOT (TVA Hull, Quebec, in the Ottawa market - present-day part of Gatineau).

Here is what some communities in Northern Michigan carried in 1980 besides WCMU/WCML, WGTU/WGTQ, WPBN/WTOM, and WWTV/WWUP (1980 calls listed):
Traverse City had WBAY, WCML, WFRV, WKBD, WLUK, and WZZM
Manistee had WBAY, WFRV, WLUK, WMVS, WTMJ, WVTV, and WZZM [but no WCMU]
Ludington had WBAY, WFRV, WGN (pre-satellite), WGVC, WISN, WITI, WKZO, WLUK, WMVS, WOTV, WTMJ, WVTV, and WZZM [no WCMU; some were part time; Ludington still has WGVC (now WGVU) and WZZM to this day; this system also carried WBAY/WFRV/WLUK until 2009 and had WITI/WMVS/WTMJ into the late 1990s; also lost WGTU for several years before re-adding it in 2014]
Cadillac had WGVC, WNEM, WJRT, WKBD, WTMJ (for some odd reason), and WZZM
Big Rapids had WGVC, WJIM, WJRT, WKZO, WNEM, WOTV, and WZZM [still has WGVC (now WGVU) and WZZM; also lost WGTU for several years before re-adding it in 2014]
Beulah had WBAY, WFRV, WLUK, and WPNE
Charlevoix had WJRT and WKBD
Grayling had WEYI, WJRT, WKBD, WNEM, and WUCM [still has WNEM]
Newberry had CJIC, CKCY, WJMN, WKBD, WLUC, WLUK, and WNMU [but no WCMU; WNMU still carried instead of WCMU to this day]
Petoskey had WJRT, WKBD, and WNEM [but no PBS at all]
Sault Michigan had WJRT, WKBD, WNEM, and WNMU [but no WCMU; WNMU still carried instead of WCMU to this day]

Charlevoix had WJRT and WKBD
Grayling had WEYI, WJRT, WKBD, WNEM, and WUCM [still has WNEM]
Newberry had CJIC, CKCY, WJMN, WKBD, WLUC, WLUK, and WNMU [but no WCMU; WNMU still carried instead of WCMU to this day]
Petoskey had WJRT, WKBD, and WNEM [but no PBS at all]
Sault Michigan had WJRT, WKBD, WNEM, and WNMU [but no WCMU; WNMU still carried instead of WCMU to this day]
Interesting that Petoskey didn't have a PBS station at all.

Also from 1980, here's what the lineup looked like in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, where one of my relatives was born back in the 1930's. Lock Haven is in the Scranton/Wikes-Barre DMA, though barely.

Cox Cable Lock Haven, 1980 (source: https://www.americanradiohistory.com/hd ... 20haven%22)
2 - WNEP (ABC)
3 - WPSX (PBS, Clearfield)
4 - WTAJ (CBS, Altoona)
5 - WBRE (NBC)
6 - WPIX (Independent, New York City)
7 - HBO (they were really early to embrace HBO, especially being in the DMA where it was founded back in 1972!)
8 - WJAC (NBC, Johnstown)
9 - WNEW (Independent, New York City)
10 - most likely WVIA (PBS, Scranton); but for some reason isn't listed in the linked source
11 - WOR (Independent, New York City)
12 - WHP (CBS, Harrisburg)
13 - WTPA (ABC, Harrisburg)

Comcast currently owns this system.

An application from 1950 (yes, you are reading that correctly!) in the FCC Cable Search listed the following channels to be carried:
  • WBRE
  • WHP TV
  • WHTMTV
  • WJACTV
  • WNEPTV
  • WNYW
  • WPIX
  • WPSXTV
  • WTAJTV
  • WTAPTV
  • WVIATV
  • WWOR
  • WYOU

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)
