Favourite Hymns

Post by Turkeytop » Wed Jul 31, 2019 9:59 pm

I'm not religious in any sense of the word. I'm an atheist. Not a militant atheist. I don't go around trying to convert others to atheism. Whatever anyone else wants to believe in is fine with me.

Despite my lack of faith, I enjoy many of the traditional, Christian hymns.

Some of my favourites.

Just a Closer Walk With Thee - (Played at my Dad's funeral)

How Great Thou Art - (Sang at my Mother's funeral)

And another I just heard again on the radio last night that inspired me to start this thread

Sweet Hour of Prayer

Anyone have any others to share?

It Is Well With My Soul performed by Crystal Lewis. She really puts herself into this hymn.

"Oh Happy Day" is my favorite gospel song!! Both the Edwin Hawkins Singers (1969) & the late Glen Campbell (1970) did great.

A few nights ago I heard on the radio, Debbie Boone singing Blessed Assurance.

Wow.

"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee"
"How Great Thou Art"
"All Creatures of Our God and King"
"Holy God, We Praise Thy Name"
"Praise to the Lord, the Almighty"
"Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above" (my church choir has even performed the "Sister Act" arrangement - granted, not during Mass)

This 1855 hymn has been updated by a fellow Canadian:

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
