Someone needs to pull a Kcar out of the garage and go cruising in his honor.

I think he couldn't get along with Ford Jr. so he left and went to Chrysler. He was a true car guy, I thought I heard he was involved in a casino in Deadwood,SD after he retired.

You mean Henry Ford II? Ford made him president of the company in 1970, but they never really got along. So, Ford fired him in 1978, despite Ford having a very profitable year.

Iacocca was a car genius, but he sacrificed (until he had no choice ) safety and emissions standards ,costing untold numbers of auto workers their jobs ,which led to the first auto industry crisis of the late 70's and 80's.

Well, how inaccurate could that post be?

Yes, he did fight some safety and emissions standards JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE in the industry because they knew those would have cratered the industry. Many fought to prevent unreasonable standards from being implemented until the technology was available to do it "right".

Wasn't the K-car one of the first models to have airbags as standard equipment??

Are there a lot of Iacocca-era Chrysler products still floating around Windsor? I still see quite a few around the Chrysler plants in Macomb County.
Im somewhat looking for a rare one that I doubt ill find, but maybe theres one or 2 hiding near windsor.

Go ahead and laugh but Ive been wanting a Dodge/Plymouth Colt (including post Iacocca models). Most were manual. I need one with an automatic because im becoming disabled. Technically, it was a Mitsubishi but it was sold as a Dodge/Plymouth.
I still see a lot of Neons and a surprising amount of Shadows, but the Colts are nearly extinct.

The only thing that wasn't "Reliant" on those cars were the tape decks. NEVER saw one that worked.

Then again, *I* always had back luck with standard tape decks in cars, too.

Thanks for everything, Lee! Rest well!
