Mike Valenti and Juwan Howard

Post by Bobbert » Sun Jun 02, 2019 10:10 am

Last week I actually spent some time listening to Mike Valenti and enjoying it. He seemed to be the only sports person in town who wasn't bending over backwards to rationalize the hiring of Juwan Howard to be the next basketball coach at the University of Michigan. He was quite critical of it, and even brought up the reasonable idea that the hiring might have in part been racially motivated (just imagine the reaction if a white AD had hired an inexperienced white ex-player to replace a very accomplished black coach). I say "in part" because I thought it was mostly about the endless obsession and infatuation with the Fab Five.

Could it be partially motivated? Sure, but not for the reason you suggest.

An African American with an accomplished NBA career could help Michigan tremendously at recruiting players from the inner city.

Valenti was being critical of U of M? I’m shocked...

Valenti is clearly scared that order is going to be restored in basketball in this state. He's scared that Juwan is going to outclass the sexual assault enabling midget motherfucker in East Lansing. In my opinion, he has every right to be afraid.

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

Valenti's entire act is ripping Michigan for something every day of the week. I guess it works with enough talk radio morons so there is no reason for him to change

In 2018 60.7% of NCAA mens basketball players were ethnic minorities. 19.9% of head coaches were and 39.4% of assistant coaches. So maybe every time a white guy is hired its racially motivated.

We all know Valenti hates Michigan....he admits and is proud of it. I'm OK with that until he tries to pretend with all his hate he can still act and think logically and rationally about Michigan. He can't and he doesn't.

I'm neither a U of M fan or hater. The hire seems like a reach. Its like the Tigers handing the keys to inexperienced Brad Ausmus.

That's a good comparison.

In the days leading up to the hire, there were many articles about different Fab Five players endorsing Howard, which was no big surprise, but there were almost no articles about other candidates, except Providence basketball coach Ed Cooley. Were the local reporters tipped off that Howard was a done deal, or did the local media's lazy approach to this story help Manuel make his decision? You think of all the debates surrounding other recent coaching hires, like Patricia with the Lions, and you wonder why there was no big media debate here.

You think the Detroit media gushing over Howard is bad... listen to WTKA Ann Arbor. They pretty much have the championship locked up if you go by them.

Valenti is a complete a^^hole (not that anyone who listens to the lad more than five minutes doesn't know this ), and he's proven it for the millionth time re.Juwan Howard's being named Michigan's men's basketball coach .

I don't know why you think I'm Brad Baylis, but as my dearly departed mother would say,"Keep thinking it if it makes you happy." (Who's this Brad Baylis, anyway ? Another of you boys' myriad fantasies,I suppose .)

WTKA is a joke! Sam Webb is nothing but a Michigan ass kisser and Ira is a nerd, who likes to hear himself talk.
