Mr. Transistor, surely SOMEONE in Detroit sports circles will aid Cameron should his physical and/or financial health worsen. Criticize Cameron if you will, but next July,he'll celebrate a half-century on the Detroit airwaves, and deserves MUCH better than his present lot .

There is a broadcasters foundation for this.

Yes it's a hard listen as he stumbles over so many ads, but he has the nerve to correct every other person every time they mess up. What a hypocrite. Matt needs to get a good point or 2 together and challenge him when it's obvious how out of touch he is sometimes.jry wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 1:26 pmIt's worked for Bob Alison. If done properly, operative term here is properly, you can make a lot of money and call your own shots. It's how Dave Ramsey got his start in Radio. Now he is number 3 in the nation. Problem with Ron is, he is somewhat below the line.Momo wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 1:16 pmCowboy, bear in mind that almost 40 years of his half-century on the air has been him buying his own time. On Drew’s podcast, it was mentioned - with derision - that that’s as low an existence as you can get if you’re an on-air talent. It’s beyond imagining that Ron was ever able to draw a paycheck for his radio product.
Beyond his base incompetence, the way he treats his producers, now, principally, a besieged Matt, is beneath contempt. Some years ago, when, pre-Alex, Ron was on yet another station, I - not interested in going on-air - called to correct another one of his endless misstatements. Exasperated, I told the screener how difficult it was to listen to Ron. His response? “Try working for him.”

That what happens when you barely have dull-normal intelligence, but are gifted with jobs a person of colour almost couldn't have gotten a half-century ago .Cameron's "worldview" reflects his lack of erudition and yes,less-than-telegenic looks .

Bob Allison, unlike Cameron,is the epitome of class ,as he was in '65 when I called him on WWJ when I was 12 .

Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
Incidentally,Cameron claims he left WPON because of the station's incompetence . Hearing his act on 1400 AM, I think it likely THEY told Ronnie to take a hike .
Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
When JJ asked yesterday about Juwan Howard being hired, he instead told a story about himself in Florida. He doesn't prepare so he doesn't have an opinion?! That's a joke.
Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
313sports, EVERYTHING is always about this textbook narcissist. I noticed that, in wasting a decent guest like Joe LaPointe (ignoring his guest, while constantly commenting on the ongoing Tigers game .... a team going nowhere), he had to mention that LaPointe had written a lot about HIM in his Free Press years! He had promoted LaPointe for weeks for his documentary on the ‘68 Tigers, only to be told by his guest that the documentary was on the ‘84 team, and that he was just a talking head. I remember Ron talking about what a good relationship he had with Bob Talbert. Then I got access to the Free Press archives only to read Talbert continuously bash Ron in no uncertain terms. And his response to Cowboy wishing him a happy Memorial Day weekend was classic Cameron. His first instinct was to say that he didn’t care about that, that he didn’t have a family! As clueless as Ron is, I really believe he thought Cowboy was talking about Mother’s or Father’s Day and that he had no idea it was a holiday weekend.
Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
Just listened to the show and he was talking about the Jim Price stuff again only in a little more detail. Very little fact and alot of unverified rumors. If Price ever heard that, I bet he could sue Ron for defamation of character talking like that. Also, whenever he is flat out wrong, it always turns into a subject change. Alex his producer called in about the Raptors winning the Bucks series after Ron said it was a sure thing the Bucks would win. I remember Alex staying with the Raptors. He wouldn't admit that he was wrong!

Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
Does anyone have any idea how much Ron charges for his ads? I can't imagine it being too much...he flubs most of them ..
Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
I'm thinking it can't be more than 500/month depending on the ad length. I wouldn't even pay that.
Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
$500 a month, 313sports?! Ron could be doing alright if that’s close to being the case.
briangoleb, I love when, mid-read, Ron suddenly stops, crumbles the ad copy, barking out, “They don’t pay!” He also harangues callers with any kind of business to advertise on his stellar broadcast. You’re right about his constant butchering of his commercials, making it so rich when, seemingly lying in wait, he pounces on Fraser caller Kurt (who, sheesh, has actually, more than once, given out his last name on air!) for any mistake, real or imagined. In fact, I think Ron, who, not surprisingly, seems to not so secretly hate his callers, none more so than Kurt, hears Kurt only insofar as he can call him out on his grammar and/or pronunciation. So, in classic Cameron style, where he directs his comments to sports personalities as if they were actually listening, I implore Kurt to grow a pair!

313sports,I've heard others mention Price's backstabbing in a more circumspect manner than Cameron . My parents told my deceased sisters and me never to say anything we couldn't corroborate in court,so perhaps Cameron has unimpeachable sources re. Price's perfidy .

Re: Ron Cameron In One Word:
Cameron has always hated the Fab Five, especially Chris Webber ,so perhaps he was shocked that Michigan would hire Fab Fiver Juwan Howard as Beilein's replacement .
