Wow, I’ve never heard of Hal Naragon and I consider myself a Baseball history buff.

Here’s a good Cameron story while I’m at it. In the early 80’s one of my dad’s friends was playing for the Mariners. Cameron knew my dad and asked if he could get friend on the show, and they worked out the details for him to go on the show during the M’s next trip into town. Although he was told repeatedly that no other players would be joining our friend, Ron still insinuated that the friend was going to bring Gaylord Perry along with him! Dad and his friend had a very long conversation with Mr. Cameron about making sure your ass can cash the check your mouth writes.

Coming from a history buff that says alot. I mean I know he's hard up for guests but the man is 90 years old on the radio taking calls! Didn't Ron think that out? Of course not just like his show has no thought or direction without Alex. Even then it still can be hard for Ron to stay on track.

Ron's take on the Yzerman hiring - that it is a bad move for the Wings - is uniquely Cameron. That is, supremely narcissistic. His sole "concern" is that Holland will not get credit for all the success he's sure Yzerman will enjoy with Holland's "team." In reality, Holland has been the only relevant guest he's had for years and Ron knows that, with his departure, his last claim to any relevance is over. So Ron's real issue with the Yzerman hiring - and resulting Holland exit - is how it will redound to his detriment.

Truth be told, Holland will get a little credit for the young core that's currently in place and the bevy of draftpicks this year. But Ron can't see that change is a good thing and Steve can help with the rest. I cant wait for his debbie-downer analysis of every good move Steve makes.

I remember Hal Naragon . (He's about 90,had a mediocre MLB catching career when I was a little boy-and just before-and is the last surviving member of Mayo Smith's 1968 coaching staff .)

RC lives month to month in these sleazebag motels. The last I heard he was living in one somewhere in Allen Park. I really don't know how he lives like he does. Good question tho if he gives it up how will he eat? He is a bit of an icon of sorts in the local sports media, despite him being a stubborn SOB, oulandish, boorish person. I could go on but I won't.

Mr. Transistor, surely SOMEONE in Detroit sports circles will aid Cameron should his physical and/or financial health worsen. Criticize Cameron if you will, but next July,he'll celebrate a half-century on the Detroit airwaves, and deserves MUCH better than his present lot .

Cowboy, bear in mind that almost 40 years of his half-century on the air has been him buying his own time. On Drew’s podcast, it was mentioned - with derision - that that’s as low an existence as you can get if you’re an on-air talent. It’s beyond imagining that Ron was ever able to draw a paycheck for his radio product.

Beyond his base incompetence, the way he treats his producers, now, principally, a besieged Matt, is beneath contempt. Some years ago, when, pre-Alex, Ron was on yet another station, I - not interested in going on-air - called to correct another one of his endless misstatements. Exasperated, I told the screener how difficult it was to listen to Ron. His response? “Try working for him.”

It's worked for Bob Alison. If done properly, operative term here is properly, you can make a lot of money and call your own shots. It's how Dave Ramsey got his start in Radio. Now he is number 3 in the nation. Problem with Ron is, he is somewhat below the line.
