Anything new on this "cluster"? I am still puzzled as to how one can lease stations that are nearly technically impossible to operate.
92.3 and 101.9 seem to be running full power or close to it. I've heard 99.3 occasionally (my guess is that they're running flea power from its licensed site between Benzonia and Frankfort).

Unrelated to this, the Freedom Radio FM satellator in Manistee has been operating on its original 91.7 frequency for the last few days, but still IDing as 91.5 W218CY. I don't see any APP or CP for Freedom Radio FM moving back to 91.7 (I think Strong Tower (pun intended) on 91.9 would preclude them from legally making the move back).

92.3 has been heard here in Fremont much more often in the past two weeks or so breaking through Power, especially in the morning hours. Can't really say the same for 101.9, but it's further and it has a wall of IBOC in its way too.

The signal has never been as good since they stuffed the IBOC bays up there.

Monitoring from Manistee today: Dead air on 99.3; 92.3 came in strong with sports-talk and 101.9 had a listenable signal.

Driving up from ludington area this morning. 101.9 came in well once north of scotville. Once by bear lake, it was getting some interference. Not sure what it was. 99.3 must be broadcasting on a tower close to tc cause it comes on very strong.

It's my belief that "conditions" are dragging the 99.3 signal inland on some days. There's no way it's broadcasting from anywhere near Traverse City.

What's playing on 100.1/100.7, if anything? Roy lost his good tower site for that one, by not paying the site rent.

:blink

Maybe they're broadcasting from a hot air balloon. Or from a pirate ship in Grand Traverse Bay? When broadcasting from a ship in Grand Traverse Bay, always use a 1 Bay. Otherwise the signal will vary as the ship rocks.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

100.1/100.7 wasn't included in the Blarney Stone LMA. Was the good tower site for that one the original Bear Lake tower site or the licensed Taylor Road site? I noticed that there is a CP for 100.7 to relocate to the (Henderson-owned) Forrester Road tower.

Heard 100.1 on the air yesterday weaker than 92.3 and 99.3 with a simulcast of Q100 (at one point yesterday, I was able to get Q100 on 99.3, 100.1, and 100.3). Neither of the three appear to be full strength, but their terrain advantage (the Forrester Road site is about 300 feet above Crystal Lake) brings them into Manistee with a staticky signal. At full strength, 92.3 and 99.3 should be slightly stronger than the Glen Arbor sticks (95.5 and 98.1) in the Manistee area.

I've just realized that the Manistee Eagle 101.5 is the best sounding station in an area bounded by the Glen Arbor sticks to the north, WTCM and the Harrietta sticks to the east, and WBLV and the Muskegon stations to the south. Of the Synergy stations, K-Rock sounds the best. 97.7/98.7 run dead air at times (especially on weekends), WKZC seems like it hasn't run its licensed 17kW in years, and WKLA (both AM and FM) are a joke signal-wise. With KLA's move to 96.3, they basically gave Manistee to Z93 and WIXX (IMHO, WKLA should have moved to 98.7 with WLDN moving to 96.3).

On a side note, the Freedom Radio FM translator in Manistee has been running an open carrier for several weeks now. That would be bad enough, but it's also operating on the wrong frequency (it's licensed to run on 91.5, but the open carrier is on its original 91.7; it was bumped to 91.5 by WGCP moving from a short tower near Cadillac to almost all the way up the Harrietta tower)

If the Ludington/Manistee area were a rated market, I have a feeling WTCM would be #1 fairly easily (with at least one Wisconsin station in the top 10)

I did another Manistee bandscan some days after the last time you mentioned them running on the wrong frequency. Quite surely enough, they were. That kinda behavior can get you shut down or fined. That's kinda a big deal.

Eagle 101.5 puts out a very respectable product; all the other commercial FM stations based in the Ludington/Manistee area are a complete joke.

Thank God the area can pick up WTCM-FM, Rock 95.5, some decent non-comm outlets, and a few decent Wisconsin stations.

Its been 6 months, but WMTE is lame. Sounded much better with the AAA format, although that was unpolished.
