WUNN To Move To AM 1100

Post by Deleted User 14992 » Sat May 04, 2019 9:49 am

According to Radio-Locator, WUNN is planning to move to AM 1100 does anyone have more info on this and what’s the reasoning?

Good find!

I can only come up with two theories:
- WUNN wants to make it impossible for WOAP to ever move into the Lansing market (under prior ownership, 1080 filed an APP to move into the Lansing metro area). When that APP was filed, I believe WOAP was running Catholic programming.
- WMBI in Chicago, which operates on AM 1110, perhaps wants to upgrade?

I am guessing WTAM comes in poorly right now, because it is next to WUNN. I know adjacent frequencies hinder it in Detroit.

This also would likely help the 1110 allotment in Sarnia, should it ever be reactivated.

I don’t think 1110 in Sarnia will ever happen again or any other Canadian Silent AM Stations which is too bad. Family Life Radio must have a shitload of cash to do something as unimportant as this with all the FM translators they currently have.

The only Canadian AM stations that have been reactivated to my knowledge are in Toronto and Montreal, so very large markets. Not sure about Vancouver.

540 in Windsor is more likely to come back than 1110 in Sarnia. My post above was more hypothetical than anything else.

I would love 540 to come back as a music station of some sort but what I don’t know, But with the economic situation that Windsor Stations have been experiencing for years, I don’t see that happening, Even the idea of CKWW moving to 540 is a great idea but than again it’s all economics.

I don't see how they could move to 1100. The CP is for a coordinate correction only, according to the narrative. There would have to be engineering exhibits showing contours. Unless there is more to come, I'd say it is a misprint.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Not a misprint it’s also on the RecNet website as well and it’s on the FCC info site, So it’s official, They have a CP to move to 1100.

Mistakes perpetuate themselves. If this was a CP to change frequencies, it would show on CDBS as such. It would have exhibits on the APP. I've heard of Consulting Engineers trying to pull a fast one, but I don't think this is one of those. Of course, there is KTGG, Spring Arbor, Minnesota, because as we all know, the two digit abbreviation for Minnesota is MI. There would also have to be a point to the change, and I can see none. But thank you for pointing this out.

It says coordinate correction. You can't change frequencies with a coordinate correction.

Looks like a typo in Section III-A, Tech Box #1. There is nothing in the engineering exhibits supporting a change in frequency.

I go with typo. WUNN is kind of an afterthought for Family Life Radio. LikelyI the only reason FLR keeps it running is to maintain the Lansing FM repeater on 99.9. I'd be surprised if AM 1110 has any measurable audience these days, especially with the big footprints WUGN and WUFN provide. There's no real advantage to changing frequencies other than to possibly obtain nighttime authority, and even then I don't it would do much. As for blocking Catholic competition from WOAP, that threat is long since gone.

Their nighttime power would be next to nothing due to WTAM. No practical reason to change frequencies that I can think of.

1390 covers way more turn, full-time and has a CP for an FM Translator in a good location. That's their real dilemma. Catholic Radio does nothing to them.

I did look at this and they're going to have the same pattern and power. Still a daytimer. The move makes no sense. Landing on WTAM cannot be a good idea. I cannot imagine them not getting some pushback from IHeart on this.

As far as FM translators go, 99.9 MHz in downtown Lansing arguably has one of the best coverage areas of any FM translator in the state. Co-channel interference is de minimus. Superior coverage when compared to the Lansing area's 95.9, 98.3, 100.3, 104.7 and 105.1. The only other Lansing area translator that comes anywhere near 99.9's areal coverage is 95.3, based on my experience.

Family Life Radio is a mixed bag programming wise (there is some real cheesy stuff on occasion) but from time to time I have found some content that has caught my ear. The stationality is pretty well polished.
