My 2 Cents on WLLZ

Post by Deleted User 14990 » Sat Apr 20, 2019 7:27 pm

I think it was a good move to bring back a heritage name, 106.7's ratings have gone up almost 2 shares in one book. I like the air staff and Doug Podell on afternoons.

The Good: I like the social media posts and there seems to be somewhat of a willingness to play other then " Safe" songs.

Room for improvement needed : Some of the deep tracks are not so deep. "Breakin the law" by Judas priest isn't a deep track If the station is the next generation of classic rock then they need to scale back on stuff like Nugent and some of the 70s rock.

I wonder if the station will be able to keep up the pace and not let the novelty wear off?

Just noticed today that after D&M show saturdays will now be "Deep Cut Saturdays" on 106.7 WLLZ.

You have to give them credit that they are trying diff things not letting things get too stale.Social media has been asking them for deeper cuts and they are doing it.Within reason.Detroit rock listeners need keep up the support for the return of Wheelz. On FM Im locked to 106.7 there is no alternative the other 2 are unlistenable imo.

There is more to come............

edit...810pm Mighty Met "the memory remains" F**K Ya!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

Well I think they have something, they just need to not blow it. Good to hear there doing the deep cuts on Saturday. The D does need another rock station besides All Commercials all the time 101.1, and 94.7 "Huey Lewis and The News is Classic rock" WCSX.

Nice logo WZRC 106.7, I think WLLZ will be here for a while they do sound great and you’re correct they need to dig deeper in the deep tracks on the weekends and get rid of the usual VH and Bon Jovi crap at least on the weekends.

Since it was Deep Cut Saturday I actually pretty much left it on anytime I was driving around. Over all I wish that was the format most of the time. I heard The Cult's "She Sells Sanctuary", Def Leppard's "Let it Go" off High and Dry, and The Rockets "Oh Well" during the evening. Hopefully this wasn't a one time deal since yesterday was 4/20. Hopefully they will open up the playlist and be more like this most of the time. However it still seems like they don't consider J Giels Band to be classic rock.

I go nuts for that. I absolutely love Jim McCarty.

I agree with your post, especially the VH "Safe for radio songs"...but WLLZ needs to divulge into the deeper cuts from VH first four albums, their best work is albums 1-4, tunes such as "Fools", "In A Simple Rhyme", "Take Your Whiskey Home", "DOA", "I'm The One", "Hear About It Later"...just to name a few...Old VH with DLR are some of the greatest party tunes ever from the late 70's/early 80's...believe me I know...

Here are a few signature Wheels tunes, certainly eligible for "deep cuts" status:

Frozen Ghost - "Should I See"

Touch - "Don't You Know What Love Is"

Cracker - "Low"

Eric Clapton - "The Core"

XYZ - "Inside Out"

Saraya - "Love has Taken it's Toll"

Siren - "All is Forgiven"

All of the above were popular AOR tracks.

This stupid radio station plays "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit and "Santa Monica" by Everclear several times a week but never touches White Zombie, Tool or even Megadeth.

iFart's rock programmers are a joke!!!

So, help me out here. What is it, exactly, that we are after?

Lost 60s and 70s tunes?

Early 80s AOR product?

Late 80s deep cuts?

90s metal/hard rock?

Everyone write it down and give them to me and I'll be the representative. I'll ask real nice.

Actually WDET weekend programing has been doing that somewhat. In the last year or two I've heard on their such things as:

157 Riverside Drive / REO Speedwagon (studio version)
Baby Please Don't Go (Amboy Dukes, "featuring Ted Nugent before he went nuts", there words not mine.)
Rock Around The Clock / The Sex Pistols

Also as of late they're playing a lot of a lot of obscure soul music, especially from Motown.

Personally I would love to see WLLZ play a little more of the late 70's and Early 80's Prog and Arena rock. Mix in a bit more classic Heavy Metal and start spinning more forgotten Detroit rock artists from time to time. Lastly add some J Giels.
