Newest Jeopardy! Uberchampion

Post by moldyoldie » Sat Apr 20, 2019 9:45 am

Professional sports gambler James Holzhauer from Las Vegas not only has eclipsed the single-game record for winnings, but seemingly eclipses his own record on a regular basis! He currently owns the top four slots in single-game winnings and has amassed a total of $697,787 during his current 10-game winning streak. :eek His habit of starting at the bottom of the board in search of the daily doubles and going across the board instead of up has flummoxed his hapless opponents.

I pity the fools who dare go up against him! :razz  :hat

James is quite good, over $800,000 as of last Friday's episode. The question is, will he finish out the season as champion? Apparently, Jeopardy's taping schedule is done, or almost done for the season. Hoping James is still on top when this season comes to an end. Ken Jennings won 74 games, would love to see James come close to, or beat that!

Its an interesting watch. While his strategy has plumped his bottom line its only as good as his ability to hit the buzzer first AND get the right answer.

I hear he's working Trebek so hard, the producers are afraid he's going to drop dead one day.

And they have launched the Holzhauer Tracker.

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

The scary thing is - he almost never responds incorrectly even though he buzzes on in 75%+ of the clues on each episode!!

The guy literally knows everything. The fact he has amassed such knowledge across such a wide array of subjects leaves me speechless.

Now he gets a break, due to the teachers tournament, probably to study up even more, if that's possible. Love his odd wagers of mostly significant dates to him, on Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy!

His stats are absolutely insane.

-Response Accuracy - 97 percent
-Final Jeopardy Accuracy - 95 percent (21/22)
-Daily Double Accuracy - 92 percent (49/53)

So even when he doesn't buzz in and is FORCED to answer a question (ie, Final and DD), he is 70 out of 75, or 93 percent. Combined with his 97 percent accuracy rate when buzzing in, and he basically knows the answer to 19 out of every 20 questions on the game.

Only way he's gonna get beat is if he bets a significant amount on a double jeopardy in the second round and gets it wrong.

I’ve read a completely unsubstantiated internet rumor that claims he will lose after amassing 32 victories and $2.4M, coming up just shy of Ken Jennings $2.5M. (Although way ahead of Ken in average dollar value per victory, and way behind Ken in total victories of 72.)

I probably don't think that'll happen, but you never know. Due to vast differences between production schedule and broadcast schedule, Jeopardy! still has two months worth of unaired episodes before the summer in-between hiatus, so Holzhauer may possibly have won more money than what has been announced to the public. We'll just have to wait until the Teachers Tournament ends to see if he picks up right where he left off.

If rumors of his loss are true (and for the record this post in this forum is the only place on the entire internet I've been able to locate such a rumor) - that would put him losing this coming Monday. The rumored dollar amount is certainly right in line with where he should be by this Monday.
