I agree with the crappy sounding product part of the post, but not the rest of it. CBC is a publicly owned corporation. It isn't run by the government any more than your NPR is run by your government.
The Canadian government is the enemy of the CBC. Years and years of budget slashing have diminished the quality of CBC's service.
As much as I wish your "Marxist Government" assertion was correct , regrettably it isn't. We have an extreme, right wing,
pro-capitalist, anti-working class, Liberal government. Our dumb-ass Liberal Prime Minister wouldn't even know how to spell Marxist.
Back to the crappy product. Agreed.
CBC Music used to be CBC Radio II. At one time it was available only in major cities like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. It had a mostly classical music and jazz format. But, as they began to expand the network and make Radio II available in small communities like London, Windsor and Thunder Bay, the suits at CBC felt it necessary to dumb it down for all us bumpkins out here. About ten years ago they flipped it to an All Garage Band format.
Hence, the crappy sound.
