I remember WLLZ as a kid, so this is a semi-cool format flip. The best thing about it is that, shockingly, they will be live and local all day long. When's the last time iHeart flipped a station and went all live and local with their air-staff? They certainly haven't done it around here. Hopefully Casey gets replaced with Steve Black or one of the names MW mentioned.

I have long been a proponent of either a return to W4 Country or sports talk on 106.7. It looks like neither will happen.

Steve Black on 106.7 would be deja vu! He was one of the first on-air jocks at the ill-fated Alice 106.7.

Unquestionably, he would sound great on the station, but I don't know if he'd be willing to leave WRIF, a station that likely will be around forever.

Was Drew Lane on the original Wheelz or just Mike Clark?

Drew Lane was never on WLLZ. He joined WRIF from a station in Phoenix, I believe.

As expected, it’s Classic Rock.

Adios, Alt 106.7. I tried to like the station, but the playlist was horribly tight and it didn’t sound local to Detroit at all. I do hope the WDTW call letters end up somewhere else soon.
AM 1310, La Zeta.

Yes, the name means "The Z", though that letter isn't in its call sign!

"La Zeta" of course is just a branding identity. Before that it was "La Mega" though there was no "mega" in its callsign, though its dial position is 1.31 MEGAHertz :)

It'd be GREAT if W-4 Country re-claimed 1130 AM from useless WDFN. ( Useless except Ben Maller and MAYBE " The Odd Couple," Messrs. Broussard and Parker . Should it happen,it should occur July 12,the day after The Fan's 25th anniversary on the air, when morning drive-time dwarf-I mean DUDE- Arthur Lee "Butch" Stearns' was the first voice heard on the then-fledgling sports gabber. )

You have to keep in mind MW that all these Alternative stations don't even have a real alternative playlist.

I have to go with the execution here
Every time Detroits gets a decent Alternative station, it isn't long before the playlist gets to stale.
WABX was one of my favorites till Class FM
WLBS New Wave phase barely lasted a year
DTX was great for a time, but slowly started to get stale and changed into the Fox
89X lasted the longest from The Cutting Edge of Rock at night till grunge took over
Planet 96 was good when they switched, but soon it became so stale with what seemed like a playlist of the same 20 songs
Alt went downhill the fastest I think, to much of the emo rock

When I travel I seem to find a decent Alt radio station, but don't know if it just seems fresh because it is something different. I wonder if I would get sick of it if it was something I listened to week in and week out.
