90’s Tunes the Radio Doesn’t Play Anymore

Post by Deleted User 14888 » Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:58 am

“Missing” by Everything But The Girl 1994
“Fade into You” by Mazy Star 1994
“I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis 1996
“Don’t Wanna Fall In Love” by Jane Child 1990
“Wishing On A Star” by The Cover Girls 1992
“I Know” by Dionne Farris 1995
“Linger” by The Cranberries 1993
That’s a few songs that should be played on at least 3 Detroit stations that in my opinion are being neglected. What are you thoughts on 90’s material not being covered as much on the radio.

Apparently, THEY DON'T TEST WELL.

They always hide behind that. I'm sure Oldies 84 could come up with a list of the Top 10 reasons for not playing a decent track on your station.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

It’s interesting to see that theses 7 songs that I listed all tested well 2 years ago and where played on WDVD, and all but one song was played on WNIC that one was The Mazy Star song, and yet two years pass and maybe two if were lucky are played on WNIC those two would be The Cranberries tune and The Donna Lewis tune, The question is how did all 7 test well 2 years ago and now 2 out of 7 are very rarely played, Now the 90’s are only 20 years ago and Stations should be playing a boat load of 90’s material but instead everyone is doing 80’s but why,
How many stations and how many times are we going to hear the same 50 songs from the 80’s I’m so tired of hearing “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell Just yesterday I heard it 3 times, once on The Big 104 and twice on WNIC in a matter of 10 hours
I just don’t get it.

Hey, I've been listening to "Brown Eyed Girl" for over 50 years, and longer than just about anybody else, because I was listening on the stations which played it first, according to ARSA. Tell me about it. Still like the bass guitar break though. It sounded better on AM. Sounds like knocking on wood on FM.

“Brown Eyed Girl” Van Morrison’s biggest tune from 1967, It was Originally titled “Brown Skinned Girl” a Jamaican song but was changed to “Brown Eyed Girl”, And yes sounds better on AM then FM as do many of song, I enjoy Oldies on AM radio more so then FM but then what the hell, I’m a longhaired old school hippie.

Check them out on YouTube and you might find out that you may have heard them, They were staples on A/C Stations playlist 10 years ago.

Pretty much every AC station still plays the Donna Lewis song though.
But 98.7 The Breeze still hasn't played it yet. Weird.

That was really never my listening preference. Much of the music I like isn't played on the radio so I'm always spinning CD's or streaming.

Great Tune, It deserves The Oldies 84 seal of approval, It’s in my collection by the way.

Amy Grant's "Heart In Motion" album had a lot of airplay in the early to mid 90s

I still have that album on cassette.

Now you only hear her during the holiday season with her Christmas tunes

Ah, the 90s. My favorite decade of music. I could go on and on and on on this topic (and I may just well end up doing that). Here are a few songs that immediately come to mind:

Martin Page - In the House of Stone and Light
Madonna - You'll See
John Cougar Mellencamp - Wild Night
Annie Lennox - Little Bird
Elton John - Simple Life; Believe
Ace of Base - Living in Danger; Lucky Love; Beautiful Life; Cruel Summer (tired of hearing only 2 of their hits on the radio - All That She Wants and The Sign)
Billy Joel - All About Soul

Chesney Hawkes - The One and Only
Nelson - (I Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection
Billy Joel - The River Of Dreams
Elton John - The One
Ace Of Base - Don't Turn Around
Sophie B. Hawkins - As I Lay Me Down
Meredith Brooks - Bitch
Phil Collins - Dance Into The Light
Genesis - I Can't Dance
Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song
Del Amitri - Roll To Me (I convinced Tim Roberts to play this one for a a few months on WOMC in 2017 until they dropped the 90s music)
Melissa Etheridge - I'm The Only One
La Bouche - Sweet Dreams
All Hootie and the Blowfish singles
Linda Ronstadt ft. Aaron Neville - Don't Know Much
Jewel - Foolish Games
Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life
Aqua - Turn Back Time
Divinyls - I Touch Myself
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy
Take That - Back For Good
Lonestar - Amazed
Amy Grant - Baby Baby

I'll think of more later. Im sick atm.
