"There is no more reason to assume it has escalated verses disappeared. "

Sure there is... We have an established trend line with no data to counter the preceding trend.

What trend line? do you know what a trend line even is? You cannot possibly plot a trend line from "more than 400 American journalists who in the past twenty‑five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency, " unless you have actual numbers from year to year. If you had 390 in 1952, 9 in 1968, and 1 in 1977 that adds up to 400 in the time span but there ain't no trend line in that scenario.
Further more many trend lines do not extend to infinity without breaking down or reversing. Since any data in your link stopped in 1977 it is absurd to assume anything about a trend line.

Three data points in a given direction establish a trend. Have you had any training in statistics? Data collection?
Because you have not followed the story and are unfamiliar, it must be impossible? That's a classic "appeal to ignorance" fallacy, correct?

I day trade the stock market where trend lines are a way of life. They often break down and as I said data that ended in 1977 no longer has trend line significance
