They were showing community-by-community predictions with ridiculous precision on 4 & 7 last night. They bring on the criticism themselves when they do stupid things like that.

The smart move would be to say "we expect a general accumulation range of x to y inches. Depending on where heavier bands form, some areas could see a little more. We have (low / medium / high) confidence in our general snowfall forecast because of _________."

The local stations never seem to properly account for terrain factors across the western & northwestern portions of Metro Detroit.

I’m 100% with you on that... people hate uncertainty by nature though so you’d risk pissing off the masses I suspect...

Thanks, NS8401. I appreciate the support! :)

I snow blowed an hour ago. My final verdict is about 4 inches fell at my house...a bit less than I first suspected. Very little additional snow accumulated after my 1:57 PM post.

What I had on the ground wasn't "light & fluffy" like certain forecasters were claiming. It wasn't super wet & heavy, either. Kinda in-between.

Interesting... here in Livonia it was like powdered sugar... it all came off the car... no ice, no stick or anything...

That's fake news. Only lake effect prone areas around Port Huron and into portions of the thumb are supposed to see snow today.

Not lost on me at all. I said "Local TV was wrong, as usual." You mention "inexact science."

Explain to me how those two ideas are mutually exclusive, because I don't think they are mutually exclusive at all.
They were wrong... the fact that you think they can nail it with certainty ahead of time and criticize them when they “blow it” shows that you don’t get it. Everything anybody says about weather is an educated guess. Your mileage may vary.

Now in your defense they should probably say “we estimate” instead of trying for absolutes... but nobody knows what will happen exactly until it’s happening and then they modify their explanation based on that new information...
I'm glad that they finally figured out that saying "average temperature" is better than saying "normal temperature."

How does skateboarding affect you sir?

You are supposed to be riding your horse in the street, not the sidewalk

Apparently, according to Derick Kever (Did I spell This clowns name correctly anyway who gives a shit!) Monday could be a bad day, I heard one forecast say 8” and another up to a foot any ideas, Please chime in because I think we can forecast the weather better than 2,4,&7.
