Let’s say, Wayne State for whatever reason decided to sell WDET 101.9 ,what format today would work? Here’s what I think An all 90’s station kind of a Jack type format but all 90’s it would include Country Crossover 90’s,Alternative 90’s,Rock 90’s,R&B 90’s,and Top 40 90’s and the station would have to be perfectly balanced and just simply call it “The Greatest Hits of the 90’s.”with an extensive playlist, I would name the station “Rewind 101.9.”What do you think would work if 101.9 became commercial?
Yes but I'd want to dig up Dave Dixon, and let him run wild all over it in a "Weekend at Bernie's" kind of way.

Way past.
Wasn't this how Rusty Trombone started out on here a few years ago?

No. Please. Not Russell Trombone. I can't handle that again.

I just can't help it but almost this entire thread is pure comedy gold.

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

If WDET were to be sold, the eastern portion of the Detroit area (out of range of WUOM) could lose a station that has some intelligent (if, perhaps, a tiny bit tilted) discussion.
Grammar could suffer.

Let's bring back Famous Coachman for weekends, then. Jimmy Launce could do middays, Alan Almond with requests and dedications in the evening and Kevin Joyce for the all-night shift.

Perhaps ,the Government should stop all funding for public broadcasting and we can be rid of PBS and NPR what a waste of money than at that point stations like 101.9 will have to become commercial.

This is an old, uninformed, ridiculous argument.
Local public stations get less than ten percent of their funds from "the Government," via CPB. Rest comes from individuals, corporate donors (which can potentially be more problematic then the "gub'mint"), and charitable foundations. Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting generally goes for facilities and distribution, and does not to my knowledge directly fund program content.
101.9 could remain non-commercial even in the unlikely scenario you propose.
It could be independently supported, like WRCJ and a few stations in other markets.
It could be operated by a church or a quasi-religious or advocacy group (gack!)
Due to terms of the UAW's grant of the station to WSU it is not likely that 101.9 could ever become "commercial."
Considering the awful state of commercial radio, yet another entry in that field would be just another clone of what's already here, and just more fodder for endless format arguments by the armchair experts here on the Buzzboard.
As to "waste of money" there are literally a million other, much larger wastes of money the feds support (regardless of party in power) that have zero actual benefit to the general public. I, for one, want some of my taxes to support the arts, humanities, science and Public TV & radio.

That's right, RadioKev. If the press didn't lie so much to make our wonderful President look bad, they would be better off. They just can't stand that Trump does so much good and they want to bring him down.

I think the Famous Coachman died several years ago.

As did every other potential host in this thread ... well, except for Cowboy. He said he was going to mosey along away from the Buzzboard.
