I’ve always believed and maybe because it’s my growing up years but the 70’s were the greatest decade for music but than again that my opinion ,I’m not saying 60’s were bad they were great and I love the New Wave 80’s as well I remember listening to WLBS 102.7 during the New Wave craze and to New Music WABX all around ‘82 and’83 great stuff .Also enjoyed Early 90’s when 89X started the New Music format around 1991 that was all great radio.
Graduated in 1977. Rock music really became an industry in the 1970s. That helped fuel a lot of creativity that built on the basic materials of the 1950s and 1960s. It was just the right time for creative bands like Electric Light Orchestra, Queen, Genesis, Todd Rundgren, Roxy Music, and others just before punk, new wave, disco, and the synthesized dance beat of the 1980s took things in a different direction. It was also the decade when all of the ex-Beatles made music. Elton John was well known for his singles in the 70s, but the deep cuts on his albums are just as impressive.

But I've discovered in the last 10 years that the greatest pop music of all time might have been made by Frank Sinatra on Capitol Records in the 1950s and early 1960s. The range of styles he took on was breathtaking.

Do you guys think "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochrane would fit in here?

Yeah why not.

A Few more:
Phoebe Snow / Poetry Man
Al Stewart / Year Of The Cat
Maria Muldaur / Midnight At The Oasis
Carol King / Jazzman , (they could even play the Lisa Simpson version.)
Rickie Lee Jones / Chuckys In Love , (a song played at my brothers wedding)

What happened to "Loadout/Stay" by Jackson Browne?

They were playing it regularly but now I don't hear it anymore.

I request they play that one daily again.

Most everyone on this song request page must really love 70’s tunes because the last 4 or 5 entries are all 70’s music now my next question is what age group are all of you I myself grew up in the 60’s and 70’s graduated in 1973 and could not stand my parents 40’s and 50’s music just curious about the younger demographic perhaps discovering older-music is that what’s happening here.
39.
I started listening to the radio around 1986/87. Most of it was top 40 or light rock. WCZY 95.5, WHYT 96.3 and WLTI 93.1--the last one being my moms station of choice that Id hear riding in the car. I had a small boombox and my dad also gave me his old clock radio. My favorite station was 92.3, before it switched to a jazz format known as "The Wave".
To me, "pop" music became a bit more "club"-ish and in your face by the early-90s. True "soft" music was being phased out, and pop music no longer fit the format. My requests are based on my early days of listening to pop radio before the genre and format underwent a transformation toward a more modern, mechanized, dance-pop sound. When I turned the station on, the first thing I heard was a Lionel Ritchie song, followed by "Leather And lace", and in that same hour, Hall and Oates "Private Eyes". Music with real instruments. It was definitely a throwback to the days of MOR/ adult contemporary radio when I first started listening. I started brainstorming all the lost oldies I used to hear that no longer fit the formats of todays stations. I remember during the early-90s when top-40 radio was playing a lot of R&B and modern pop like Janet Jackson. The beats were too heavy and the songs, even if not aggressive, seemed geared more toward dance clubs than offices, and i realized "light rock" was on its way out, with less orchestral arrangements and more heavy drum programming. You have to admit that 90s R&B was not really meant for the same setting as Peabo Bryson and Jeffery Osbournes smoother styles. I think with these newer, acoustic singers, "light rock" is coming back. Many of the artists on 93.9 are sort of modern-day interpretations of guys like Neil diamond. But that music already has a home. The Breeze is definitely leaning towards a more displaced era of softer pop-which I remember first-hand. New music is fine as long as its consistent with the more old-school sound they have been playing a lot of.

I pulled out the playlist we used at WFMK 30+ years ago. Here's a few that seem to be missing from The Breeze:

Mike & the Mechanics "Silent Running" and "Taken In"
Dan Fogelberg "Missing You" and "Language of Love"
Alan Parsons Project "Prime Time" and "Eye In the Sky"
Little River Band "We Two"
Foreigner "I Don't Want to Live Without You"
Journey "Send Her My Love"
Bob Seger "Understanding" and "Fire Lake"
Toto "I Won't Hold You Back"
Five Stairsteps "Ooh Child"
Walter Egan "Magnet & Steel"
Eddie Rabbitt "Suspicions"
Jermaine Jackson "Do What You Do"
Steely Dan "Hey Nineteen" and "Rikki"
Linda Ronstadt "Tracks of My Tears"
Ronnie Milsap "Any Day Now"
Elton John "Mama Can't Buy You Love"
Christine McVie "Got a Hold on Me"
Jeffrey Osborne "You should Be Mine (Woo Woo song)"
Firefall "Strange Way"

I heard Load Out/Stay last night as I was driving home on Telegraph. Perhaps it's in lunar rotation?

Great choices there. I thought I covered everything in my lists but you proved me wrong 🙂

And possibly about the Jackson Browne tune.
It used to be on several times a day, so maybe!

I've heard a few other songs that only have played late or overnights

I absolutely DO NOT want to hear whiny bands like Train, Creed, or Five For Fighting on this station. That kind of mindless pablum was basically the turning point where AC evolved into the crap show that it is today. :x :x :x

Foreigner's "Inside Information" album was an AC staple in 1988. It's a bit uptempo, but The Breeze could probably get away with playing "Say You Will" as well. Lou Gramm's solo "Just Between You & Me" from '89 would work also.

I just heard a Chicago song I put down on here, "If You Leave Me Now"

I changed my mind lol.
Replace it back with "baby what a big surprise" playing more often again. That song is far superior.

Oh and PLEASE REMOVE "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran.

Nobody asked for that and we clearly don't want to hear it. It does not at all fit in, like ffs, what genius decided to program that one in? Lol ugh
