Kim Russell got the security rehired for DPS schools, and got the mayor to tour some classrooms without heat and with rodents.

Meanwhile the rest of the investigative reporters for all three channels are all standing around outside Flint buildings taking turns reading from Snyder and Democratic press releases.

She's really turned her work around! On the other hand the hot and cold timid coverage of Flint is unfortunate...

Kim was always a good reporter, covering breaking crime is just a thankless job. Now that she can do her own stories instead of reacting to the scanners has shown how talented she is.

The Flint coverage is ramping up quick, the blood is in the water, literally.

Let me translate... She's good at Education beat reporting and extremely anemic at crime...

to the guy who said the investigative reporters should do one on Flint

think of it this way

they air A Flint Story as often as they show one from Windsor-Essex

even though from both places you can get WDIV on cable.

These folks don't give one hoot about Flint. It's where they take a dump. As long as the story is salacious, they'll cover it. Otherwise, they all laugh at Flint.

This is a giant national and international story even featured on BBC and Russian TV. Also in New York papers, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, LA Times that I read, cable news channels and all three networks all sending anchors/reporters to Flint– This is a big big story.

Without a question it is a story that Detroit stations and newspapers must be all over. Detroit media is the epicenter of the state's news organizations with the furriest furthest reach.

As for Kim Russel she is an exceptional journalist. She is not an official investigative reporter at WXYZ but she does uncover many substantial stories. Her report on the fishing pothole was picked up by out-of-state papers with video. She did a series on border patrol that was excellent. We forget we are a border state. She road in Border Patrol helicopters, patrol cars, custom staff also in Canadia. Additionally she has worked at every TV station in Flint. Crime stories are assigned and Kim might not get the best shots. And also WXYZ has a number of stars.

As far of Detroit media not covering Flint beyond this story Flint hasn't had a story. Flint is among nation's poorest cities and Flint TV carries the markets news.

Can't say that i disagree with any of this, Lou....

At some point, someone will have to report that it was FLINT that didn't or couldn't pay the tab with the Detroit Water Authority. Maybe everyone expected Snyder to pay it out of his personal account.
Walling isn't so bright and probably should have found a way to remain on the Detroit system until the Port Huron pipeline to be finished.
But for U of M, Flint would REALLY be in dire straights. I do hope that it can turn around.

Oh boy. Who wrote this mornings news on WDIV?

Yesterday, every news outlet reported the death of Maurice White from EW&F.
This morning, WDIV told us that he died in his sleep, just last night.

We all know that the latest Debate on NBC aired on Thursday Night.
ALL of WDIVs graphics said "Tonights Debate" as they were discussing it with various guests.

These types of mistakes shouldn't be happening in a top 15 market.

Circle 7, Mon. 2/22 0959. The weather update just before "The Doctors" was a clip from some days ago, forecasting warm temps and high winds. Not today's, for sure.

They've been running an ad for a Friday story off and on for 2 weeks... Problem is it already aired 3 weeks ago...

What's next, WXYZ constantly reairing the same exact newscast from last year at 11 PM for a while?

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

I'm not sure but they accidently aired Simon Shaykhets 10pm piece with "coming UP at 11" in it on the 11pm instead of the proper package and nobody acknowledged the error. I think viewers appreciate admitting mistakes more that acting like they don't exist.

I love it when there is an official statement on the screen and the Anchor is reading it as a quote, BUT does not read it verbatim. Why, just this morning, Evrod was reading such a quote, adding and subtracting words at will.
