Here is the awards ceremony for Ron's cable TV award in 1984. The part relevant to Ron starts at about the 1:20:48 mark. Unfortunately, neither Ron nor Bob accepted the award. Of course, the clip shows them clowning around, making CSPAN viewers from coast to coast wonder how they won the award.

Here's another Ron trigger—this FanDuel commercial, in particular the part about "getting away from your co-worker Ron." I'm sure the lady in this commercial isn't the only person to have had that feeling.

Cameron, the friendly host
The friendliest host you know
Though young fans might look at him with fright
The old fans all love him so

He really knows his stuff, and he always makes us wiser
Whenever he needs dough, he's kind to every advertiser
Buzzboarders understand why many love him the most
And callers know that he needs them so
Cameron, the friendly host

Watching Pistons/Heat and as they are interviewing Erik Spoelstra thinking back to the close relationship Ron had with him.

I did a Buzzboard search of "Erik Spoelstra," and found 17 Ron Cameron posts.

It's always fun to go back through the thread and see the wild variety of comments we made on any RC topic.

As I've oft-noted, I never believed Ron - who somehow never met so many local sports bigwigs, e.g., Flip Saunders, Don Canham - ever spoke to Erik Spoelstra about his grandfather, longtime Detroit News Tigers beat writer, Watson Spoelstra. I think it was a conversation Ron had entirely in his head. What he'd say to Spoelstra if he ever had the opportunity to talk to him.

I wonder if Scott Harris has finally brought Lance Parrish into his confidence.

In this recent article about Alan Trammell and Lance Parrish, Trammell is described as "a trusted presence for president of baseball operations Scott Harris," but nothing like that is said about Parrish.

https://www.mlb.com/news/alan-trammell- ... eball-camp

Interestingly, this Tigers staff directory describes Trammell as a "Special Assistant to the General Manager" and Parrish as a "Legend Ambassador". (Only Combero is special enough to be called a "Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations".)

If Parrish and Harris ever met, it was probably something like this:

The winless start of the Tigers brings to mind Ron's take under similar circumstances. Depending on where he stood with the then-current management, he’d either remind us that the baseball season was a marathon, not a sprint, or lament it was gonna be a long season.

In 2017, they started 3-1, but Ron still called that a "strange start" in this April 8, 2017 open line show:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/team ... ores.shtml

That April 8, 2017 show is a fun listen—almost a Best of Ron Cameron Open Line:
  • Thoroughly rips into Price and Dickerson.
  • Talks about Rob Parker's obsession with Bea Arthur.
  • Jabs at Bob Page.
  • Many of our old favorite callers, from Ken from Livonia to J.J. from Lincoln Park to Cowboy, Kurt, and Mark.
  • Lots of humorously awkward comments.

Did the Tigers have the caravan in the off season? That's the real question.
